I'm not old enough appreciate Abe's entire career, but from what I have seen he's as classy as they come. Very generous and a lesson in what it really means to be loyal. One of the last few unequivocally good guys in sports or anywhere else. I wish he could have seen a few more wins over the last 20 years but I guess it wasn't meant to be.

May his wife, children, and other loved ones find peace in this difficult time. We'll miss you Abe!

Rest in peace, Mr. Pollin - one of the few universally respected people in the NBA.

I hope the current group of Wizards feel ashamed of themselves for playing as poorly as they've played this season and starting the media controversy that is all abuzz currently. Time to right the ship in Abe's honor.

So this is how it ends for Mr. Pollin as he died today. A team bickering over egos and battling over playing time while he was battling for his life. Best regards to the Pollin family.

Yeah that is great and all but 1970s, 1980s and early mid 1990s Washington DC was a hell of a lot more of an exciting place to live in than it is right now.

1997-2009 Washington DC does not even come close.

With all due respect, Abe was one of the main reasons why pre 1997 Washington DC was such an exciting place to live

Just face it, post 1997 Washington DC has not been all that great.

Regardless of what the media tries to brainwash you into believing, the 2000-2009 decade has been mostly forgettable. That does not just include Washington DC either.

In the 1970s, before Bird and Magic and Jordan, the Bullets made it to the finals four times, winning it all in 1978 with the worst regular season record (44-38) of any NBA champion. The 1970s Bullets are the reason I'm a Wizards fan; I was a Bullets fan. After Wes Unseld, Abe Pollin was the face of that team.

Goodbye Mr. Pollin. Thanks for building an arena I can walk to. Thanks for the memories of a tough, exciting team that made me a basketball fan for good. I'll continue to follow your team. They'll turn it around eventually.

Rest In Peace Mr. Pollin. You will be sorely missed.

I can still remember seeing the videos of how happy Abe was when the Bullets won it all back in the late 70s with the Big E et al. He truly wanted a championship team again.

I'll never forget how seemed just a regular guy at a Bullets game at Cole Field House. (They played a couple of games a year for a few years there).

Old man Rivers, we get it...enough is enough, let the man rest in peace. If you can't afford to go to the games now, GOOD, they're better off without you.

I've almost shed tears a couple time this evening and I thought Abe should have stepped aside years ago. I keep thinking back to my fond childhood memories of watching the Bullets at the Cap Centre growing up in the 90's. I can only imagine how hard this is for people who have followed the team since the 70's. Abe is a DC legend. He brought this city a championship and more importantly he brought NW DC back to life and for that he will always be remembered.

this is a very sad day for Washington DC but an exciting day for the direction of Bullets Basketball. RIP ABE

Feeling lots of gratitude for what Mr. Pollin did and represented. RIP.

Yep. In addition to being a central figure in DC business and sports, Abe was a huge figure in the DC Jewish community. He was a huge donor to a of number of Jewish philanthropies -- from the JCCs to Jewish Social Services, on and on. He bought (along with the Jemals) the historic synagogue at 6th & I, restored it, and it has played a big part in revitablizing urban Jeiwsh life here. And he was a symbolic leader too. He used to do the Federation walk every year. In fact, when I was quite young (early 80's) I met Wes and Greg Ballard at the walk, as Abe had brought them along.

As we say, "zikhrona l'bracha" -- may his memory be a blessing.

R.I.P Abe.

Sad news, he will be missed in DC.
