Flip said that either Foye or NY will start. I want to see Foye get a real chance for once but I also like NY and he matches up well with Iggy so who knows. Still, if you make a trade for a guy then you have to give him a real shot to prove his worth and I think he plays well with Gil. I also like the fact that even though his minutes have been limited, he's still being a little unselfish and not just gunning. I think Flip wants someone on the starting unit who can hit open shots but also wont try to take away all the shots from the big 3. I think he feels that NY may be the better starter with his size and defensive capabilites but Foye is a better playmaker and wont take all the shots away from the stars. Its screwed up because you also know that Miller is going to come back. Do you start Foye and then come off the bench with Boykins & MIller while sitting NY? Again, if it was up to me then I would start NY and bench Boykins. I would start NY and come off with Foye & Miller because I think they match well together. If you arent going to do that then give Foye his shot and give him the start. It might hurt us on D but its obvious that DS sucks on D now too and we have to win with O right now

I got excited until the words Nick and Young and Randy and Foye were mentioned.

Foye has had his chances and he's proven to be nothing more than an inconsistent undersized shooting guard.

Pairing him with Gilbert might help Foye's offensive game but would come at the expense of our team defense.

Nick Young, even if he goes 0-10, can play solid if not spectacular defense against the opposing team's starting 2-guard.

This team is simply between two worlds. They need to pick a direction and I think that is only going to happen after they make a trade.

There are lots of ways to slice this pie. Personally, I think talent is one thing but character/personality is also important.

I know we have been talking about moving CB or CB and AJ.

Here is another option. Move CB and Gil and keep AJ. Go after someone like Wade or Bosh or if there was any way in the world to do it, get Wade and Bosh.

If we could end up with Wade, Bosh or Wade, Bosh and AJ that would be an amazing core. Id give up just about any player on the team to get there. Id like to keep McGee and MM though.

Come one EG. I still believe. Pull that magic.

You guys remember when Butler came here and Jordan refused to start him at first...then when he did, we were way better? Thats how I feel right now with Foye. I think he would be pretty good with minutes, but I'd rather start Young this game.

I disagree. Saying he had a chance is like when people use to say that NY had a chance. All guys are different and Foye is one of those guys who needs minutes, just like NY. Boykins & Miller are the type of guys who you can put in at any time and it wont matter. They will play the same wether its 40min or 5min out the blue. Foye wont do that. He needs a consistent set of minutes to play well and the same goes for NY. Thats why I say that Foye hasnt had a real shot.

If I had my choice, my roation minutes for the 1, 2, and 3 spots would be Gil 38min, NY 24min, Caron 36min, Miller 24min, and Foye 22min. I think thats a perfect group and rotation with Foye & Miller off the bench working off of eachother. Foye can backup at both the 1 & 2 spots while Miller can backup at both the 2 & 3 spots

The only downside is that Stevenson's trade value went from negative to really really really friggin negative. But he has an expiring contract (I believe?) so overall, it's nothing to fret over.

I'm looking forward to seeing Foye get a shot. He played well with Arenas earlier in the year, but it was just a few games so there's no way of knowing if that can be sustained. Either way, I think Young should start in certain situations. For example, Young played Wade well, so he should probably start in games where Foye is overpowered by the opposing SG (of course, maybe that's every game--haha--but I believe Foye is tougher on defense than some might think).

Yes. It's unbearable to watch Desuck Stevenson start... he does nothing for us on offense and on defense he makes a few fouls... he's foul prone... and it's the other players on the Wizards- like Andray Blatche who are better at causing turnovers. We're not that bad of a defensive team... we're not that good either... I've seen us play good defense... but Desuck Stevenson does nothing when we're playing tough D... I just hope he never starts again.

I think the big lineup that everyone wants should only be a last resort. I say that because I may be different but whenever I think about lineups, I always think about playoff matchups. Thats the #1 thing I do. Foye isnt that bad at the 2 because the teams we have to go through dont have big dominating 2's. Foye can easily guard Ray Allen, Pietrus, and Parker. The only problem may be Joe Johnson if we had to meet them. Also look at the 4's for all those teams. AJ will be guarding AV, Lewis, and when we play the C's he goes up against Perkins. On Atlanta it would be WIlliams. If you move AJ to the 3 like alot of you want then he's guarding Lebron, Pierce, Carter, and Josh Smith. Thats why I dont like the big lineups "unless" its the last resort

Just because AJ starts in the 3 position doesnt mean he has to guard the 3. Also i would rather have NY chasing Ray Allen off screens purely because he has the length to disrupt shots. And id rather have him on Pietrus and Parker for the same size reason.

edit: im sure this is buried in another thread somewhere, but statistically, how does AJ fare guarding both the 3 and the 4? are there any advantages that can be worked out from that info?

Well Blatche would be no better at guarding the 3 and that would leave AJ at the 4 again which is what people seem to hate. I also already said that my choice would be to bench Boykins all together and have NY start with Foye & MM off the bench but Im just giving a reason why Foye could be the starter because I dont think the size would hurt him as much against those guys we could see in the playoffs. Even with there size, none of them are scorers except Allen and Foye isnt much smaller than him. Plus I think Foye could eat Allen up on the other end

Not comparable situations, IMO.

Foye doesn't have the raw talent and gifts Young has. Young is built to be a good defender. They question was, will he put forth the effort?

With Foye, he is what he is - a streaky offensive player who doesn't have the size to play the 2-guard and defend effectively (or even adequately). That's really where the discussion begins and ends for me. This team is not in a position to put someone in the starting lineup, give them a reasonable amount of minutes and count on them for success if they can't defend. Not when we already have Gilbert and Antawn. It would be doing the exact opposite of what we should be doing - trying to establish more of a defensive identity.

More minutes for Foye isn't going to shine some light on his hidden defensive abilities. They aren't hidden, they're just aren't any to be found.

I like the "Finally" in the thread title, considering Stevenson only started starting five games ago. If that doesn't say how bad he's been, I don't know what does.

What took you so-long Flip? The DS suckage continues from last-year. Young should start, he's better on D.

I say start Foye until Miller returns. If his defense is terrible than quickly take him out of the game for Nick. It's hard to remember because he has been so awful, but Foye started off the season pretty good. If we can get him some minutes now so he can get his rhythm back he could bring a lot off the bench once Miller gets back.

Foye is an absolutely terrible defender. I was hoping that he could make up for his diminutive stature by at least being quick on his feet and staying in front of people, but he doesn't. He is slower on his feet than your average 6-5 starting SG, and PG's blow past him like he is standing still.

Short and slow is a bad combination. Foye will never be a starting-caliber defender. There's a reason why Minnesota was a terrible team last year despite having Al Jefferson, Mike Miller, and Kevin Love.

Start Nick Young. It's a no-brainer.
