After years of this team being taught a poor defensive scheme and not being focused on it as a primary part of the game, Flip has taken his biggest step yet... He flipped out publicly. He says he could drive by them even at his age. Thats a call to them as professionals. It's a huge insult. But they deserved it. He gave them all the chances he could for them to get it done behind closed doors. Now you either make to grade, or your getting moved off the team. Flips is showing who is clearly in charge, No longer do the chicken rule to roost.

This is a great sign of a healthy front office. EG has his coach and that coach has the mic. And the balls to speak into it honestly.

First Flip pulls the whole starting line up. That seemed to work for a short while but didn't stick. He has given them a chance to change their ways and to prove that the line up shouldn't change. He gave the three big contract players their chance to save face and get it done. No more.

Now he called them out publicly. I'm sure they will get a half to show something. It not, I think everything is open for change. You could see one of AJ or CB coming off the bench in a game or two.

But what they do short term doesn't matter as much. The important thing it that Flip has laid down the law for everyone on this team who is here now and who will be here in the future. This is major line in the sand for this team defensively.

I like that Flip flipped out. I don't think it's the turning point though. At best, it'll lead to another 2-game winning streak before we revert back to our old ways.

This team needs to be blown up. Jamison must be traded, probably Butler too.

Flip will need to continue to flip out after every game before it makes any difference to the Players, Management.

I say go Bobby Knight on Antawn and choke him out after his next blown defensive assignment (which means 1st possession of the next game.)

I can't even look at this guy anymore, I've never even heard of a professional basketball player who doesn't bend his knees on defense. Somebody needs to break out the damn chair technique for this guy, it's so pathetic.

There will be no turning point until this roster is changed.

No this is not the turning point. The team can play better defense but the guys they have don't care about defense and won't all the sudden put the effort of a SA Spurs team. That type of defense would require a personel changes including and a HC who is demanding like Popovich.

this was long overdue, and should've been the primary focus in training camp. i'm disappointed that flip didnt diagnose this problem waaay ahead of coming to dc, instead all we heard him talk about was how offensively gifted this team is.

the incredibly shrinking 3... gil, caron and antawn, need to understand that their careers in dc are on the line. mgmt needs to make that clear.

To me this is closer to rock bottom than it is to a turning point. The similarity to the Washington Redskins situation is uncanny.

Contrary to the Redskins the fans goodwill may still be there, but it's now awfully clear that all of those calls for patience by management and players were clearly misguided. This team needs to be blown up and rebuilt sooner rather than later.

There's no such thing as a turning point with the roster as currently assembled.

If they haven't gotten that you need both offense and defense to succeed by now, then they aren't going to figure it out now.

I like that Flip is voicing his concerns. It's certainly not something EJ did. But I don't think it will have much, if any affect.

Occasionally thinking that somebody needs to be covering somebody seems to be the defensive plan as practiced by quite a few Wizards. I don't know if Flip's rant is THE turning point, but if it's the dawn of an era of the coach constantly harping (to the media, to players, to management) that the Wizards will suck until (among other things) the roster embraces the execution of defensive assignments, it might be A turning point. It helps reporters keep the issue in the spotlight, and some players might get the message, and for those that don't, the highlighting of the issue keeps pressure on management to respond to it through trades, FA signings, and the draft.

The again, maybe Saunders will retreat into his shell, hoping to get fired so he can collect a huge check and transition into color commentary.

I must say Im very disappointed what Flip has done in WAS this season. You sure have good starting 5 plus very deep bench. It will be interested to see what will happen...well you cant fire a coach...it would be the best to rebuild if you ask me...

Retain McGee, Blache,Young and McGuire...trade the big 3, let the others expire

Staying mediocre for years...why?

This team has talent to get a excellent team in return.

Gilbert, Jamison, Butler, and Stevenson should go. The atmosphere and culture is beyond repair.

True PG like Ramon Sessions might be a good start.

Haywood and Blatche are keepers IMO.

It's interesting that the 'Flip Out' happened for the last game of 2009, after exactly 30 games with a fairly long break before the next game. Plus, as ornery as the meaning of Flips words were, they weren't necessarily at the explosive fever-pitch of a guy who just suddenly 'lost it'.

I wonder if there's anything to the idea that this one was brewing a bit and more or less planned?

It is such a shame that it has to come to such a drastic decision. I believe you guys don't have the right coach to buy into his system. Flip has been booted by a couple of teams. I know you guys are probably saying why is a Grizz fan telling us about your franchise. I am not here to bash, only to wish you guys luck on your owners decision. Offense is not the problem with this team. If you could trade for a couple of defensive minded personnel, maybe it could spark the other players to play competitive basketball. New Orleans is looking to dump some people...Maybe James Posey could really help a team like this. Just my two cents.

I hope the Grizz stay on their trend as well. Finally some smart decisions that are paying dividends. Now to get that bench worked out.

I agree with Hoopalotta. His flip out seemed a little like he had picked out his choice of words before hand and was waiting for the right time.

klemen4, I'm more disappointed in Flip than in the roster.

I think he's lacked insight on how to win games this season. Flip's stuck with the veterans and a short bench when he could have mixed and matched lineups and tried things. Flip could have tried Dom at SG; Javale at C or PF in relief;he could have not played the big three 40-plus minutes, regardless. Flip's system really slowed Butler and Arenas at the beginning of the season.

In short, I'd have like Flip to coach better prior to him going off.

The roster's poor, though. No doubt about that.....
