This was posted on Rockets board. Wizards are trying to get Tmac with Butler as the main bait. Just putting this info out there not posting it as a trade prop.

Butler also got flips messgae, WT

Wizards coach Flip Saunders blasted his team's defense earlier this week and forward Caron Butler heard him loud and clear.

Saunders asserted that he probably could have outplayed his team given their effort against Oklahoma City on Tuesday night.

"I'm a man first," Butler said.

"I got pride. I take pride in everything I do, particularly in the court. To see that, just to see him, and we exchanged words. He told me that he expected more from me, in particular, some of the things he wanted. I just said, don't worry about it. I got the message. I'm pretty sure everybody else did too, but hone in on it and try to set the standard in practice."

Saunders singled out Butler after practice on Thursday and the forward seems to have accepted the fact that if the Wizards are going to improve defensively, the onus is on him.

"Some of the things that I need to get back to, not second guessing yourself out there at all," Butler said.

"Don't try to fit in, just be you out there. I think that's what’s been going on a majority of the time, just trying to fit in and do the right thing. Obviously, instead of just playing your game, just being free out there, not thinking too much. That's when I'm at my best, and I had a good practice today."

I put this in another thread on this topic. If the Gil stuff isnt true then I wouldnt mind this trade but still not blowing it up. Caron doesnt seem to fit well in Flip's system. We could be alot better off except with Tmac at the 2 and Miller at the 3.

If Gil is in trouble then you might as well blow it up. However, its still not a real blowup if you have Gil & Tmac on the same team. They could still do some things in the future. Thats a crazy backcourt and we could get rid of Wood in the Offseason and have McGee up front. I wouldnt mind seeing all those guys together.

However, I hope the WT is true because Im a CB fan and I still think it can work

I can't imagine we would be so stupid to trade Butler for TMac. TMac is an over-the-hill vet who is an unrestricted free agent this summer. His only value is that of an expiring contract. We're not giving away Butler for an expiring contract. Houston would definitely need to include some serious incentive. At the very least, they'd have to take on Stevenson's contract as well as give us a 1st round pick. But even then, I don't consider it likely. Butler + James + Stevenson have a combined salary worth $2.2M less than TMac alone. Counting luxtax fees, we'd be paying $4.4M and losing Butler, just to save $4.1M in Stevenson's salary next year.

That David Aldridge article on gun gate touched on this slightly...

http://www.nba.com/2010/news/01/01/wiza ... ef:nbahpt2

The new investigation also has put any notion of trade talks between Washington, which is resigned to performing radical surgery on its roster and is now willing to trade anyone -- including Arenas, Caron Butler and Antawn Jamison -- and other teams on hold indefinitely. A league source indicated Thursday that the Wizards would make a play for the expiring contract of Houston's Tracy McGrady, which another source confirmed Friday. However, the second source indicated that Washington was only one of several teams that were bidding for McGrady, who has been allowed to leave the Rockets indefinitely while the team tries to work out a deal for him.

"It's not close to happening," the second source said. "Anyone who tells you that doesn't know what they're talking about."

I wonder if we're actually trying to send Jamison to Houston? Wojokowski was just speculating wildly on Butler being the bait.

As I was mentioning in the trade thread, Resigning Scola could be a real bad idea for them (5 year extension for a 30 year old) and they could get Jamison to play behind Landry, who might be able to play as the Pivot a bit (you know how it is).

It's a bit far fetched, but if we sent them Jamison and expirings, they could move Scola in a separate trade.

At least I hope that's what we're TRYING to do. If we had a plan to send Butler for expirings, it would be a bad sign as to where we're going.

That was my thought as well. Using Butler as sweetener to get them to take on Jamison.

Maybe Butler+Jamison+Stevenson for TMac+Lowry+pick? We could do worse.

Oh and yeah - we've already got a thread for this.
