Lets just say the video comes out and Gilbert didnt "pull a gun on JC" or mean any harm in his actions but was only joking and he is STILL voided...will you still be loyal?

If Gil actually pulled a gun on someone, I will change my tune, but I just don't see that. So, for this poll, we are assuming pretty much everything we've heard recently and it was a bad joke gone terribly wrong.

I'm a die hard Wizards fans to the very end. Getting past rough times like this is what being a true fan is all about. The Wizards collective is greater than any one individual whether its a player, coach, or GM.

im in it for the city. ill always support the team but have found my passion seriously waning over the past two years. i find the organizations treatment of arenas (and seemingly lack of similar concern for javaris) to be disturbing but somewhat understandable given abe's passing and longstanding concern over gun violence.

i havent been much of a fan of EGs tenure anyway (Young, James, Crittenton, Pecherov and the non drafting of blair have all been major concerns for me) so this incident doesnt disillusion me. just waiting for ted to clean house and hoping that EG doesnt make a bunch of stupid trades (im not against trades but have a sinking feeling that we are going to pull another webber for richmond).


although i must say that recent reports that the wizards arent going after crittenton because they hope to use his contract as trade filler are disturbing. it seems clear from that EG isnt really concerned about the issues raised by the incident but is using the situation as a way to try and get out of a contract. argh, oh well hopefully EG will get fired over this and ted will end the silly behind doors upper management games and power struggles.

I'll always be an intense fan of the Wizards, but it's impossible not to lose some interest after how this season has transpired thus far.

Once they clearly choose a direction (meaning trading Jamison and Butler), I'll actually have some hope - something I haven't had for the past few years (even before this season started when we all pretty much knew we were going to be a playoff team, we still had no direction).

I'm a Washington Sports fan not a player a, b or c fan.

I want this team to win basketball games. I believe cutting Arenas' contract - arguably the worst in the league prior to this mess, now unquestionably so - would be a fantastic first step in the rebuilding process that gives us a chance to accomplish that. So no, I would not be upset with the organization for attempting to void his deal, not in the least, regardless of what actually happened in the locker room. In fact, I'd say i have the 100% opposite point of view: if the team has even somewhat reasonable grounds to go for a termination and don't, then that is what would make step back and lose a little interest in the team. The organization having their guys' backs through thick and thin would be nice if I were applying for a job there, but as a viewer, it does nothing for me.

I'm a Wizards fan, period. I'm not always happy about it, but I'm sorta stuck. (No one will buy my seat on the bandwagon anyway.)

Are We Making A Huge Mistake With Gil?



Alright, lets say that all this plays out like most people around here want it to in that someway Gil gets suspended for the year, we can void his contract, and get rid of him. Thats what most everyone seems to want but you know what I was just thinking about?

What kind of Gil will be playing ball next year? We all know about knee injuries in sports and what does everyone always say about them? You are never all the way back until the following season or the 2nd year back. Then look at Gil's age. Next year he will be in his prime years and reaching his peak in terms of mental basketball.

Its obvious the the curse of Les Boulez is in effect and just the curse of our sports area peroid but I think it will be in even bigger effect next year if Gil is gone. To me it will be like we had him for these past 3 years including this season and basically gotten nothing out of him and now we will get rid of him at the time when he's going to be a monster. Its like the kind of stuff that always happeneds to us.

I think the situation will be compared to his draft. Everyone has Gil rated as the best 2nd round pick of the decade and a ton have him rated as the best or one of the best 2nd round picks of All Time. They think he was a steal and thats what it will be like next year if it goes down like people want it to. His contract is voided and no team wants to spend alot on him or take a chance on him so they will get him at a discount price and he will be one of the best players in the league. It will be one of the biggest steals in NBA History, basically like when the Pats got Moss for peanuts and we will again look like idiots for the last 3 years getting only 45 total games out of him in which he was still injuried in most of them and now letting him go at a time when he is at his peak and fully healthy. Dude will probably be like an MVP canidate somewhere next year and averaging like 28 & 9 while looking super explosive again and dropping 40 on us everytime he sees us.

I just dont know if this is the right time to bail on the guy because I think next year's version of Arenas will be the best Arenas ever and someone is going to get him for a steal. Me personally, Im still holding out hope that he can come back for the last 10-20 games of this season and play well

It's in the DNA for me. Rooting for the Wiz isn't a choice. It's a given.

I hate that I'm a Wizards fan. I'm stuck liking this team. I don't really know how not to like the team. I checked it's getting harder and harder, but I strongly feel they do quit on their players when the players are down.

I'd love new ownership, new GM, and a new cast around Flip Saunders--who I'd give til the end of next season to continue to suck before they fire him.

I'm kind of stuck rooting but it is interesting that no one is talking about Crittendon at all. I have to agree with Bannd's assessment. Peter Vescey should be fired and sued he's KILLED Gilbert's rep with fake facts that apparently didn't happen and I think he pushed print first and asked questions later. The worst part is Gilbert will never get an apology b/c everyone is so sensative about the gun issue. What he did was less then genius but if it truly was unloaeded guns in a secure, bolted locker he just doesn't deserve this whitch hunt.

Couldn't agree more. Gil deserves the suspensions and whatever DC decides to do to him but the character assassination by the media is ridiculous especially since so many of them loved his goofball nature when he was winning.

As long as he had unloaded guns with no ammo, the guns themselves were about as dangerous as a flashlight. I'll be very jaded if we void his contact over this since he's still by far our best player even if he is overpaid. Not ready to go back to square one.

So yes i'll be jaded but still (and always) a Wizards fan.

I am hurting with the skins and wiz, but I think the Skins have turned the corner. I stayed with the caps through the fire sale and they are now the hottest team in town and am proud to have said i was a fan before ovechkin.

The Wizards are in tough grind right now, but IMO it can be turned around quickly if you can go out and possibly void GAs contract, trade Butler and/or Jamison to contender for expiring contract (McGrady?) plus picks and you can do a quick rebuild with the looming 2010 FA

Given the information we have at the moment, if Gil's contract is voided I will still still support the Wizards and I'll watch games on TV for sure. I most definitely would not renew my season tickets though. As I've mentioned in another thread, having the chance to see Gil play live against some of the games greats 25-30 times a year was the main reason I purchased (and continued to renew) my season tickets.

With him gone, and the team presumably going through a rebuilding phase, I will choose to spend my money elsewhere...but most definitely will cheer for/ support/ watch the team (and truthfully I'll support Gil wherever he ends up).

I'm a self-confessed "homer." Wizards, Skins, Nat, Hoyas, DC United, Caps. You name it. I'm always rooting for the local guys. And since pro basketball is my fav sport and I've been a Zards season ticket planholder for more than 15 years, I guess I'm in it for the long haul...thru the good, bad and ugly.

Someone had a very good analogy before (maybe here) about people who go back to their abusive spouses. Everyone tells them to leave, but they are in love and loyal.
