I think he's doing a good enough job playing the position that we should consider him long-term. I think if you pair him with Mike Miller the PG duties are taken care of. It's a little untraditional but that doesn't mean it can't work... opinions?

Good.. except for that whole missing the shot or turning the ball over @ the end of every overtime. Making terrible decisions when they matter the most, while most obviously trying be Arenas-lite.

Foye never has nor will he ever be an NBA point guard, but teams don't seem to learn. If a real PG were setting-up Foye last night instead of the other way around, perhaps we would have won last night.

Foye is a decent SG, not very good or great, just good n streaky.

He's more suited to be a 6th man off the bench, at starter I would rather have a traditional, more efficient PG there or a better defensive PG.

He's been better than I expected. I never thought he could be a starting PG in the NBA, but maybe I was wrong. He has not turned the ball over often and I really like that.

He might be a cost efficient option at PG while the Wiz bring along a young PG draftee.

Watching the game yesterday, I was again impressed with how well he's filled in for Arenas and at the same time had an impression similar to that mentioned above. Few turnovers, but seemingly destined to fail in the clutch if the offense starts with him. As a 3G, he can adequately back the PG while backing the SG or even starting there. If it's a question of keeping him for an additional year while a replacement PG develops (or a search for a new PG takes place) I don't mind, and I credit him for stepping up as best he can within his abilities.

I picked Foye up off the waiver wire in fantasy and I haven't been disappointed.

Not actually watching the games any more, (just not worth the emotional or time investment), I can't say how he's actually playing. Is he as good as his numbers?

(I'll always think of Foye as a SG who passes).

Foye is good enough to start at PG if you want to lose 50+ games this year.

He's getting the minutes he got in Minny and he's producing like he's done in the past but its obvious he's more comfortable as a scorer and his decision making has been horrible in key situations. Offensively he'd be decent off the ball but the you'd have major issues defensively.

I have no problem keeping Foye for one more season as a short term fix at PG b/c were gonna stink anyways, but it would be foolish to sign him to a long term deal. I'm looking at his numbers as fools gold.

Foye hasn't been a great point guard per se, but he has been more consistent since becoming the de facto starter at the position. I think that knowing what his role will be has helped him. Before, he could be playing on or off the ball from game to game or even from possession to possession. Now that he has a consistent role, we're seeing more consistent play.

But he's not the longterm answer at the point for this team.

Yeah, but more like a 3rd or 4th guard. He's started quite a lot at the point, and it's obvious he doesn't have the instincts you look for in a playmaker. Kudos to him for holding down the fort in this rough time. It reminds me a little of when Chris Whitney (like a smaller Foye) held down the fort when Rod Strickland let the team down.

He's a terrible point guard if we want to win any games. He takes a lot of Arenas-esque shots, but what we need is someone who is willing to move the ball around a little bit more. Boykins is pretty much the same type.

Both can fool you into thinking they can play the position when they hit a few jumpers a night, as Foye has done in previous nights and Boykins tonight, but neither has the smarts nor the vision or even the cajones to swallow their pride and give the ball up sometimes.

well, he's giving the ball up enough for wood to snag double doubles and AJ to play like an all-star.

i used to think that good squads necessitate a stockton-esque guard. a real facilitator. however, i've since been converted to the fact that talent trumps all in the NBA. who cares how you get the ball in the bucket as long as it gets there? foye's been playing decent enough and for this squad, it's all you can really ask for at this point. we're playing better AND losing games. pretty much the ideal situation.

however if we're talking long term? i'd definitely keep him around. he embodies depth. he's good enough to start at either guard position and post a 13-16 PER doing so. i'd much rather keep Foye than the one-dimensional N1 or the flat out awful DS. I won't even dignify MJ, Boykins, or Critter with a complete thought.

Foye isn't good enough to be a starting PG, or even a starting SG. But he's a solid third guard in a 3 guard rotation.

He should be able to provide quality offense off the bench (points and assists) without the pressure of playing against opposing starting players. He could play a similar role as Vinnie "The Microwave" Johnson for the Wizards.

If memory serves, Vinnie Johnson was a tougher defender than Foye. The stats show that Johnson had a better FG% and was a slightly better rebounder. But Foye hits the 3 point shot at a better clip and has a higher FT%.

If I had to choose, I'd take The Microwave without thinking twice (because of the better defense), but I think Foye can effectively play the 3rd guard role for the Wizards.

"starter" isn't a very high bar. i think foye compares rather favorably to other starting pg's in the league like Fisher, Stuckey, and Duhon. he might not be in the top half of starting guards, but he's good enough to start in the league.

People usually aren't so literal when they talk about whether a player is worthy of being considered a "starter" or not. It doesn't mean "There is at least one team in the league starting someone at this player's position who is worse than this player", but rather, something like "I would be satisfied with this player starting for my team at this position." So Foye may certainly be capable of starting at PG for some teams, but those teams would consider PG a position they need to upgrade going forward.

Exactly. I think Foye is a quality player from what he's shown so far (and should be kept around), but if he's the starting PG then I think the team would need to look for an upgrade at the position. Unless Foye can be paired with an elite SG who plays at a high level on both ends of the court (like Fisher with Bryant [Edit: not very likely to get somone of Bryant's caliber, just using him as an example]). In the meantime, this season is the best chance to get Foye as much PG experience as possible. Not much to lose at this point.

there's always room to improve. i think having Young/DS at sg is a bigger hole that needs filling. i'm pretty satisfied letting Foye running point for the next 6 months or so.

That is true .. 1/4 against some very mediocre competition.

Hornets look resurgent (8-2 run last ten games), so does Chicago (7-3 last 10 including a road win against Boston), Atlanta's got the fourth best record in the league. Sure, Detroit's falling apart and the Kings are falling back to earth, but all five games were against teams with better records than the mediocre Wizards, who might easily have been 1-4 in that stretch with Arenas starting.

Foye makes mistakes at crunch time (that seems to be a Wizards thing) but he's producing more than I expected. He's not a savior but his presence might help the Wizards as they try to figure out the long term re Arenas, without having to make any costly and regrettable trades or FA signings.
