Andray Blatche

I haven't watched many Wizards games over the past few years, but from a fantasy perspective (or simply just looking to the box scores) it looks like the guy is legit whenever Jamison didn't play. I think there's very few back ups who can come in a be a 'fantasy beast' when their starter goes down (Paul Millsap comes to mind). From looking at the box scores, it seems like these first two games without Jamison were no exception. What do you guys think of him with regards to the Jamison trade and allowing him a great chance to develop? Also, any insight as to why he didn't get many minutes with Jamison and Haywood there?

He's always played better when he knows he won't be yanked for silly mistakes. It's a confidence thing with him.

Not quite, they are nothing alike. Blatche is all finesse and no power, Howard is all power no finesse. Howard is an all world athlete, Blatche is a below average athlete for the PF position.

The dude is 'whoop' worthy.

It's his time.

You know how I know that there has been a fundamental change regarding Dray? He was the go-to guy on our last 3 possessions. This is HIS team.

Blatche is a big, big upgrade from Jamison.

Yeah, I said it.

IDK about that. I think Blatche's whole game is underrated on this board but espically his power. No doubt he can play a finesse game but anytime he is full time at the 4, he can score at will on the block and back guys down easily. He's not explosive and thats where he has to use some finese but he has more solid strength than people give him credit for. He can push guys around on the inside and score with size in the paint

as for the rest, I think he is just getting his full shot so he is producing. I think he will always put up good numbers if you start him, give him minutes, and give him touches. I also think he will mix up his game well in those instances but if guys like AJ are there then Blatche wont get the touches and he will float on the perimiter more

Blatche showed real leadership there in the 4th... We are clearly a better team playing from the inside out

I still recall the video at Verizon asking Wizards who the weakest Wizard was, and every single player said Blatche except Blatche (he said Young). That includes Butler, Songaila, Daniels, several others, all in agreement. I think he's showing more strength this year, a result of his purportedly more extensive summer work, but he has a ways to go, and hopefully he will be just as dedicated this summer.

well he's definitely a different guy now with the 7 day stuff and he's acting way more mature in the post game like its his team now, lol

I was on the Raps board and before the game they felt ok about Blatche but after the game they all seemed to think that he was the 2nd coming or something, lol

He's just a different player when he starts, gets the minutes, gets to play his natural spot, and gets touches. He doesnt get any of that with AJ there and he's more likely to float on the perimiter but when he's the man like this he mixes it up perfectly with the inside/outside game and again, he has no problems passing the rock. In these 3 starts he's getting 25 & 10 and he's still only playing 32mpg. Thats alot for him but alot of star bigs play close to 40.

What also makes it even more impressive is he's doing it against very good comp. The 1st game was against Big Al & Love, then against K-Mart & Nene, this game against Bargs. Its not like fluke stuff where he's dominating scrubs or smaller men. Its very legit

I'm really excited about Blatche and McGee. They seem to work together when they're on the floor together. If you would go back to Blatche's first two years as a Wiz, it took time for him to get to where he is now. I know McGee is making mistakes and is raw in areas but how can he improve if he's not playing. I love watching him out there with the other centers getting pushed around. That's how he will learn. That will ignite something in him to want to be stronger in the paint. If you look at the tone of his arms, you will see that if he spend more time in the weight room, he can have a Dwight Howard type of physique. I'm excited about Blatche and McGee and I would love for Grunfield to give them more minutes together.

If Blatche put on some muscles he will have power and finesse. He would be Kevin Garnett. :D I believe he said his favorite player was Kevin Garnett. I think Saunders has been motivated Blatche into being the player he is today.

I think Blatche deserves credit for his motivation, not Flip. He's obviously motivated by the opportunity to be the guy. You can tell he's eager to have each possession run through him. He clearly is a better player, as are most bigs, when they are involved in the offense.

That's been the key for me as I'm 100% mental.

All that 7-Day-Dray work could well transform him into "Double-Double-Dray." So far so good.

Dray if you're reading this, great job. But you know what it means: You're on a good path but you haven't arrived anywhere yet. Give it time and keep putting in the work and the results will be there.

Interesting that Flip is finally giving Dray the run. He could have easily gone with Oberto, and I kinda thought he would. So he's giving the PT, now tweak the playbook some.

I will say that Flip knows him some KG, so if Dray is in that mold, Flip will know better than we do.
