Watching Duncan and Jamison

I think Blatche has been a certified beast and will continue to do so but both of these guys are doing something tonight that Ive been saying every game that Blatche needs to do. We all know Blatche needs to get stronger & bring the energy every game but thats not a big deal to me. I think he will figure all that out in the offseason and will come back with a great body and ready to bring in for 82 games.

My only problem with him now is his post game or lack there of. He’s very good in the post and in like the first 3 games after the trade he stayed down there. Then he started getting doubled and basically has went straight to the outside faceup game. Its still ok because he’s one of the few bigs who is good enough to play well out there but I want to see him back on the block more.

Some have said to me that he doesnt want to be down there now because he gets doubled and thats true but my argument is, “whats wrong with that”? Im watching Duncan and they are doubling him every play and guess what? He’s kicking it out for wide open 3’s. Thats what Blatche should be doing. Whenever he does get doubled, we do get wide open 3’s or cuts to the basket. Thats how he was getting all those assist but now he’s not really doing it anymore. Flip should tell him to get back down there and its ok to be doubled as long as we are still producing as a team offense.

The 2nd part that I say every game that he should do in the post is go fast. He doesnt always have to wait for the double team. Im watching AJ and he knows the double is coming so as soon as he gets it, he is going fast before the double can get there. Blatche has the type of size, power, quickness, and moves to pull that off. Its like Blatche is good and is dominating but he dont even realize how much he could still dominate. I mean he could use the faceup, take guys off the dribble, pull the J, while still being in the post, drawing doubles, kicking out to open shooters, or going quick with it for the score. I think he would also draw alot more fouls that way. Spin as soon as you catch it and so on.

Basically he should play just like he is now while also incorporating some of Duncan’s drawing the double & kicking and then the other half of the time catching them off guard by going fast before the double comes like AJ does. Alot of players also get the ball in the post, the double comes, they kick it out to the closest guard who immediatly throws it right back, and then the post player is supposed to do a quick move before the double can come again. Thats all stuff we should still be doing instead of Blatche shooting all jumpers or whatever. He’s so good that he’s still playing well like this but imagine him putting it all together.

Keep in mind that hes played what, 10 games in this role? And he is only 25.

actually he's only 23 but you still dont want to build a mindset of settling and staying outside when its not needed, espically when he's up against those smaller PF's. Like against the Bucks he stayed outside even though they had undersized 4's. If he gets doubled, kicks it out, and our O still sucks then he can change but until then he should be on the block more. Again, I dont want him to be Duncan. He's too skilled for that. I just want him to mix it up more.

Im not as upset at him as I am with Flip or the rest of the staff. I cant believe they arent telling him the same thing. Once that starts happening then you see him make a couple of those plays he did yesterday when KG was clearly too slow to stay with him but Blatche was crossing and then shooting long fadeaways from near the 3pt line with a hand in his face when he shouldve been driving past him at that point.

Trust me, Im not a hater. I was ripped non stop on every Wiz board before the season because I said we didnt need Griffin since we had Blatche and they played the same position

It's tiring to bang down low for position on every possession. With Blatche as the only scoring option other than Thornton, he needs to pick his spots. I agree that he needs to get down on the block a little more often, but I don't expect him to do it every play.

It's also worth noting that other teams have often guarded Blatche with their center. If Bogut or Perkins is guarding Blatche, it makes more sense for him to take those guys out on the perimeter.

i tentatively agree but 2 problems:

1 - we don't have any shooters. the one shooter we've got doesn't even shoot. heck, we don't even have that many slashers (not with-ball slashers. off-ball slashers who make cuts down the lane for easy layups.)

2 - blatche doesn't post with his back to the basket. with your back to the basket, you've got a better view of open guys on the perimeter. i know that blatche HAS moves where he isn't facing the basket, but a majority of the time he's facing the basket when he makes his move, like chris bosh

Well I definitely agree with your 2nd part as I say that all the time. I mean, it isnt rocket science to me. If you get the big slow big on you then take him outside and go to work on him wether its taking the J or blowing by him but if you got a smaller guy or inferior guy then take him to the block. However, even if you have a big guy sometimes you should still try to take him on the block.

I also want to see more power moves from him even though thats not his game. Nothing Shaq like but Id like to see him back a guy down and just turn and shoot right over him or go into him instead of always fading away or doing up & unders, even though I love them also. Im not going to trip over that though because he's just learning how to play this role and we can worry about the extra stuff next year but he still can get in the post more now. Basically Im just saying that he has the total skillset almost so he should just be more unpredictable and mix it up more

I have also been wanting Blatche to get on the block a little more, but since he has only been playing this role for 10 games, he`s still learning. I don`t believe he is in shape for the minutes he`s been thrust in to, which is very understandable. Therefore he is not able to fight as much for his position because he doesn't have the energy at this point. Its still all new for him. I think he will work hard in the off-season on his body and his stamina.

He has worked the inside- outside game quite a lot, especially with Foye. I really think he is still getting used to being the number one option and being focused on by the opposition defense. I think he is doing a hell of job considering how he was being played earlier this season. he was playing with his back to the basket a lot more in the first three games or so, but I really think he was fresher and was able to better hold his position down low. Then in the Knick game, the big turnover game he struggled handling the double teams, and since then he has been posting up less. But I think he has been studying more and is really taking what the defense is giving him

I just want him to learn to accept the double teams and use his great passing ability to find the open man, it will make the defense think twice about doubling and then it will be ( pick your poison for the opposing teams.

my thoughts exactly. nate had some good points that i had not thought of but it seems like over the last 5 games blatche never makes a move TOWARDS the basket when he posts up. he tends to fade away with a jumper or stray away from contact. i wish he would roll towards the basket, he has such crafty moves but hasnt really utilized any of them over the last 5 games. however i have noticed, bigs have made a strong (and successful) effort to keep him out of position. especially in the bucks games and in the boston game.
