Lawson, Ellington and Green to stay at UNC

Post#1 » by A.J. » Mon Jun 16, 2008 8:33 pm

Ty Lawson, Wayne Ellington, and Danny Green are all headed back to Chapel Hill, according to multiple sources close to the situation.

"They are all going back to school," one source said. "None of them were 100 percent sure they would be taken in the first round."

Ty should have stayed in the draft. Ellington and Green made a good decision to go back.

Next year UNC will be the early favorite to win the NCAA championship.

Bigtime decision.. UNC should be preseason #1 for sure now..

C/F: Hansborough, Zeller, Stephenson
PF: Davis, Thompson, Green
SF: Ginyard, Green, Graves
SG: Ellington, Ginyard
PG: Lawson, Frazier, Drew

Very deep. Haven't seen Davis, Zeller, or Drew play but they should be good pickups. Davis is ranked top 15 in the country so I'd assume he has the ability to take Thompsons starting role, and Zeller is ranked top 30 so i'm guessing he'll add the depth to the bigs.

Yeah, Carolina is the prohibitive favorite to win it all in '09. Pittsburgh remains my darkhorse though. By UNC is loaded, and just as importantly they're experienced.

I disagree that Lawson made a bad decision staying.

After his DUI or whatever the charges were he was borderline first round at best.

Now if he played the whole season healthy and didn't get a DUI imho he would be a lottery pick easily. He was doing whatever he wanted to on the basketball court before his injury.

Ty Lawson needs to develop some sort of jumpshot before he considers leaving for the NBA.

He has a jumpshot. He just needs to get stronger.

Not really........his jumper is not that consistent. His real strength is attacking the hoop. So when teams back off of him and force him to shoot from midrange, he is going to need to improve the consistency of his shot.

he needs to get stronger??? have you seen the way hes built? getting stronger is the last thing he needs. he needs to prove he can bounce back from injury and develop his own offense more.

Lawson reminds me of a poor mans Raymond Felton. It is good he stayed.

I think Lawson is more talented than Felton. What made Felton such a special player though is that he gave it his all 100% of the time and developed outstanding leadership abilities. Neither of which Lawson has figured out yet.

If Lawson can do those two things I think everyone should pencil him in as a top 10 pick in the 2009 draft.

NC should be the champs in 2009. I can only see one team stopping them and that would be Louisville. Louiville has a lot of players returning, including Earl Clark and Williams.

Yeah, and they could not do this last year.....

And now they are missing Padgett who directed a lot of the offense. Their freshman provide depth and Samuels should make an immediate impact. But, I do not see them beating a motivated UNC. Still, I rarely bet on the Tar Heels because of their lapses. See losses to Maryland and close call against VT. That said, they should win every game this season.

Actually the only problem could potentially be the rotation and dispensing fair playing time for most everyone. UNC brings in a lot of talented freshman and they could use some experience. Hopefully, Roy can mesch the old with the new. This is the only issue I foresee.
