Your midmajor teams?

Post#1 » by jman3134 » Wed Dec 24, 2008 3:45 am

What midmajor teams are you cheering on this year?

Mine: UIC, Middle Tennessee St., Stephen F Austin, TAMCC, Davidson, Loyola (Chi), College of Charleston.

My mid major for this year. Illinois State. Undefeated. Got completely overshadowed last season by Drake in the Valley. Then laid an egg in the Valley championship game to Drake on National TV. Osiris Eldridge and Champ Oguchi (Oregon transfer) are an incredibly underrated back court.
Jerry Reinsdorf; the undisputed king of allowing his GM's to run amok with unchecked power and ego. :king:

Butler!!!! They lose a majority of their best players last season, including one of the best backcourts in the country, and they are still a top mid-major team... just ask Xavier. It happens every year and I just can't seem to figure out how they do it. I guess they just take the high school talent that the bigger Indiana schools overlook and with great coaching they become very good players.

Mine is more of a low-major team, but NDSU (Thats North Dakota State University, for those who don't know). They play in the Summit League. This is their first season of postseason eligibility. They are led by their point guard Ben Woodside, who scored 60 points in a one-point triple-overtime loss to Stephen F. Austin where he went 30-35 from the free throw line. He also had 8 rebounds and 8 assists in the game. He already holds the school's all-time scoring record. Two other current players are also in the top 15 on the school leaderboard, with Brett Winklemann at 6.

Last Saturday, they lost a close game to Southern Cal by only 4. USC may not be as good as last year, but they are still pretty good.

The team is a scoring machine, scoring over 86 points per game. The next closest conference opponent comes in at 71 ppg.

They will be a part of ESPN's BracketBuster Week, so stay tuned.

They just lost a heartbreaker today. Woodside was out for much of the game with foul trouble and Winkleman had 33 points if I'm not mistaken. Kangas of Oakland hit a leaning three to put them up by one. Woodside goes full court at lightning speed and misses a tough layup. It was close.....

Does Memphis count as a mid major because I'm definably a big Memphis fan. I follow MTSU (Middle Tennessee State) a little too.

My Buffalo Bulls haha. They almost upset UCONN at home and beat Colorado (okay, they're awful... but they are in a major conference). Started the season 8-4, but they'll collapse in conference play as usual.

Evansville and Butler. Evansville is a nice basketball town, and it would be really great for the city if the Aces would make the tournament. I'm not sure they will, but I need something to cheer for while my alma mater is one of the worst high-major teams in college basketball (IU).

I'm a WKU alum, so I'm definately biased but they've had good wins against Louisville and UGA, but tough losses to FSU and FIU. Western's frontcourt is atrocious, but they've gotten some talent in the wing positions.

I also like watching Butler play, seems like they're trying to carry Indiana basketball, along with Notre Dame.

haha no, I cheer on UIC every year. Loyola is a one year gig. (I like their players not really the school) And yes, I'm aware that they are rivals. Still, I have nothing personally invested in either school. But, nice call and good to have you aboard.

St. Mary's has been really impressive... them, Butler, Xavier, and Gonzaga are all very dangerous mid-majors.

I always root for the one right in my backyard. Temple!! I like what I see in them so far this year. They have a tough schedule and have played well. The loss at Umass was expected though.

Why would the loss to UMass be expected? I watched that game and did not feel that it was a definitive win.
