Fred Hoiberg hired at Iowa State

Post#1 » by collin_k41 » Sat May 1, 2010 4:46 pm

Is this a good hire? Literally no head coaching experience but he has a lot of connections, has played at the highest level, and has been under some great coaching minds over the years. This is obviously the "feel good" hire for ISU fans as Hoiberg played there and has always been a fan fav but is it worth the risk? Personally, I think so. If he puts a good coaching staff along side him to help him adjust to something he's never done before he should be fine. Looking forward to seeing how this pans out.

I think this is a good hire too and should lead to a successful coaching career for Hoiberg. He does have alot of connections and credentials and I expect him to be a pretty good recruiter. This seems like a perfect situation for both sides.

It's a worthy risk, in my opinion. He's so well-loved there that if he succeeds, he'll probably want to stay. The chance at getting a long term successful coach is worth the risk that he bombs. He also seems to be well-thought of in front office positions as well.

Good for Fred, he was a solid player and a decent guy with his time in the L with Chicago. :)
