Re: Cammo's Preseason All Americans
Way too much love for Robert Sacre. If someone on Stanford makes all-Pac, it is going to be Jeremy Green. Tony Wroten is overrated. Michael Gilchrist is going to make the all freshman first team. Dee Bost is also overrated. I highly doubt he makes any all american team or is in contention for it. Missing on the Mid-Major all americans are the following: Ken Horton (Central Connecticut St.), Justin Greene (Kent St.), Reggie Hamilton (Oakland), Nate Wolters (South Dakota St.), Kyle O'Quinn (Norfolk St.), Casper Ware (Long Beach St.), Greg Mangano (Yale), Keith Wright (Harvard), Wendell McKines (NM St.), Kyle Weems (Missouri St.), Ian Clark (Belmont), Kevin Foster (Santa Clara), DJ Cooper (Ohio), and Damian Lillard (Weber St.). Further, Desmond Holloway signed with an agent and thereby can't play college basketball. For polling purposes, I am not sure that the A-10, Mountain West, and CUSA are considered midmajor.
Here's my list:
1st Team All Mid-Major
Casper Ware (Long Beach St.)
Damian Lillard (Weber St.)
Kyle Weems (Missouri St.)
Wendell McKines (NM St.)
Doug McDermott (Creighton)
2nd Team All Mid-Major
DJ Cooper (Ohio)
Nate Wolters (South Dakota St.)
Elias Harris (Gonzaga)
Keith Wright (Harvard)
Mike Glover (Iona)
3rd Team All Mid-Major
Ian Clark (Belmont)
Kevin Foster (Santa Clara)
Orlando Johnson (Santa Barbara)
Alex Young (IUPUI)
Mike Muscala (Bucknell)
4th Team All Mid-Major
Reggie Hamilton (Oakland)
Ken Horton (Central Connecticut St.)
CJ McCollum (Lehigh)
Justin Greene (Kent St.)
Kyle O'Quinn (Norfolk St.)
Greg Mangano (Yale)
I put six on the last team because I could not decide amongst the bottom three big men.

You really think there are five better Mid-Major centers than Sacre?
I live in Spokane and to be honest I haven't exactly been a "fan" of Sacre but I'm not buying that there are 5 better mid-major centers than Sacre.
Last year he put up 12.5pts, 6.3rebs, 1.9blks. He shot respectably from the field at .488 and he is an excellent free throw shooter for anyone much less a big man at .823.
I'm not going to blow sunshine up his butt because personally I'd like to see Sacre grow a bit of a mean streak and grab a few more rebounds. He definitely has the size to impose his will on the court.
Here's the thing though. Gonzaga plays a fair amount of games where they destroy their opponent and Sacre will play just a shade more than a half. In 10 games last year Sacre played 22minutes or less. Gonzaga is really deep up front especially this up coming season. Mark Few has the luxury when Gonzaga is up big to sit his starters and play his second unit.
Personally I don't like Sacre as a pro prospect. He has great size and already has an NBA build but the guy has no hops. Still though he is a very good "college" player. Sure I wish the guy would rebound a bit more but other than that he does a pretty decent job anchoring the Zags.
I think Sacre could hit 14pts, 8rebs, and 2blks this season and those numbers are pretty damn good for a college player. Of course if Gonzaga is crushing teams, hitting those numbers will be tough when you are on the bench.

Re: Cammo's Preseason All Americans
I think you might have it in reverse. Because of the team he plays on, I think Sacre will be less statistically productive than some of these guys. I was a bit reluctant to put him on there with Harris already receiving a mention. With that said, you could easily make a case for Sacre on the 3rd or 4th team imo. I just think that the guys I mentioned will have better stats at the college level. As pros though, I would say that Sacre is one of the better prospects.
Not all the guys mentioned were centers. I think that Muscala will have improved considerably. I think that Wright and Glover are definitely better college players. Sacre could easily be exchanged for Mangano, O'Quinn, or Greene imo. Even more than him though, I would probably put Rob Jones on this list. He is going to big this year for St. Mary's. I just think that people will look at the stats here and because these guys are on top teams, (and are not the go-to guy) it might be difficult to get placed here.

No love for Draymond Green = mistake.
I have a very hard time he won't have a better statistical season than Hummel and Shurna, and MSU still has more talent to win more games, with Green playing the lead role.

Re: Cammo's Preseason All Americans
first time clicking on this subforum, otherwise i wouldve said something about the henson and kendall marshall omissions off your all american lists.
i'd swap ant davis and terrence jones. still not a believer in jones.
thomas robinson > perry jones
mbakwe should be on one of the AA teams. i think kris joseph should be on one too.
doron lamb > willie buford > austin rivers
josiah is nothing special. kabongo's in a better position to produce.
that's as far down the list as i'll go. thx for compiling though.

That'd be a huge mistake if he was one and done. Kid is very raw and needs to mature both on and off the floor.
Im not a believer in him. Imo hes all braun, no brains with more swagger than substance.

No love for Bradley Beal? He' was one of the highest ranked freshmen coming in and on the Gators he will get a lot of looks especially from the outside where he has excelled in high school. Just curious about what you think of him.

better than rivers, turner and cammo's entire 2nd team all freshman list. there's a bit of a logjam at the guard spots but florida's playing 3, sometimes 4 guard lineups. im interested to see how the minutes will be distributed when the competition improves.

Kevin Pangos for Gonzaga.

The kid is going to be a stud. True freshman from Ontario Canada, in his first start went 9-13 from 3pt land and had 33pts, 6dimes, 2rebs and 2 TO's. The kid can flat out shoot the ball. Has good size and great court awareness. It was against WSU a Pac12 team. WSU isn't a national powerhouse but Ken Bone has done a pretty solid job taking over for Tony Bennett. It's not like he was playing against a D2 school or a total cupcake.
Honestly I hope Pangos isn't too good because I'd like to see him stay for another year.

pangos is a 4 yr player. and no, his size isnt great. he's got t-rex arms.
good shooter though, but i cant see him being anything other than a specialist off the bench at the next level.

Can you point out where I said he had "great size"? I said "good" size. The dude is 6'1" In college that is pretty good. He also has a solid build. To me someone's build factors into "size".
Is he a 4yr player? I hope so because the kid looks like he can create and shoot lights out.
I wasn't really critiquing his game for the next level. Someone asked who to look out for this year in "college".
Next time I will save myself the effort of contributing and wait for you to do it.

fair enough. his size isnt even good. 6'1 is avg and his wingspan is less than his height. if his build is enough for him to have "good "size, then JJ barea has "good" size too.
yep, he's a 4 yr player unless he decides to go to europe early.
no need to be defensive. you contributed and i commented on your contribution. that's how forums work. kevin pangos will be a nice college player. could be another dickau.

You put words in my mouth and then ripped me for it. Let me know when I should start getting defensive....
Personally I think 6'1" 180lbs is a little better than average at the college level but even if he is average the kid can still play.
Then you keep bringing up his "T-Rex" arms. Which to me if we are knit picking here which you seem to be fond of doing. His arm length would be just that, "length" not "size".
Lastly the guy asked, who he should keep an eye on in college this year. Then you start projecting Pango's at the next level.
Personally I don't think Jimmer is going to amount to much in the pro's but that doesn't mean he wasn't a great college player last year or that he wasn't a great watch either.
Pango's tied a Gonzaga school record for made 3's in just his first start. To me that's pretty impressive and he seems to be worth keeping an eye out for. But I'm sure you have some way to knock his 9 made 3pters in his first start so I will just wait for your condescending response. I'm sure some 6'2" kid with Saer Sene arms buried 10 3's and I just haven't heard about it so please enlighten me.
And the JJ Barea comparison is just bad. The dude is not even 6' and he is playing in the pro's not college. But yeah.....

ok here we go...
i didnt rip you. good, great, doesnt make a difference. he doesnt have good size. he's completely average for a college PG. and yes, length does matter when factoring in size. a player can be a 6'3 PG, but play bigger than his actual height if he has good length. the opposite is true as well. pangos' arms are shorter than his height which makes him even smaller than 6'1.
yes, the guy asked that. you mentioned pangos. cool. he's one to watch in the college game. i agree, he can be a nice college player, but then you say that you'd "like to see him stay another yr." which implies what? he could be good enough to be a one and done-r? i personally dont think he's anywhere close to being a prospect who has a chance to be one and done, so that is why i mentioned what i think of his pro prospects.
no i didnt make a JJ barea comparison. i basically said that if pangos is considered to have good size, then so does barea since he's small with short arms with a strong build. yes, barea's in the NBA, but he doesnt have good size.
and blah, blah, blah rotnei clarke
