I don't understund why alot of NYer's consider UCONN a team of theirs? Is it because of the geography ?
I mean it's in Connecticut, New England. They should stick to Syracuse or St.John's.
Does UCONN claim to be the team of NYer's ?

Uconn is New England. Also for those who don't know anything about Connecticut the tri-state area is consider the north part of jersey, nyc, and the southwest part of connecticut that is the norwalk, stamford, bridgeport area. Now Uconn is located in storrs right near Mass. The is alot of Uconn fans in NY but Uconn is New England.

Connecticut is not a suburb of NY. The only town in Connecticut that a lot of well to do new yorker live is Greenwich and that's about it.

UConn got passed by everybody in conference re-alignment. They are nobody's team.
AAC. LOL UConn.

Both.
A swath of western CT is considered NY Metro area. We are similar culturally to New Yorkers and have many relatives from NY state.

UConn gets major regional TV coverage and news following throughout the multiple states that make up New England, not to mention exposure in the NYC TV and sports media market. UConn has a brand that can alone career a conference. What makes you think the media and sponsors that profit from UConn basketball ever wanted the Huskies buried in a super-conference with multiple competing interests?

BTW,
The Huskies are a sleeper team this year. While ESPN and mainstream sports media will be fixated on raw freshman and groups of one-and-done's who will be playing together for the first time, UConn will return all 5 starters. The team will be made up of mostly upperclassman. They have played together and been through a great deal of adversity and pressure. Some went from Champion to being banned from postseason play. This is a hungry team playing behind a coach they really like and they have as much chemistry as any group out there and more than most. There is no superstar player or high first round pick but that's not what defines a team. Granted Kentucky will probably win it all. They have an overwhelming amount of talent. But the NCAA tournament is wild now with one and dones. Anything can happen. The Huskies are an upset special imo. Watch them (whether you live in NY or New England but that goes without saying).

AAC. LOL UConn.
They got passed in conference realignment because their football program sucks and thats what this conference realignment is all about, in college basketball it doesnt matter as much what conference your in.

eh I beg to differ. North Stamford, Darien, Norwalk, Westport. A lot of "New Yorkers" just live in these places and work in New York.

True, but when it comes to New York cuse definitely owns over UConn. Ever go to the garden when Cuse is playing? They pile in that place by the boat loads, its truly amazing.
I think UConn's only real claim to NY is that 1 its not THAT far from new York, and 2 having been the most successful big east team for quiet some time they did a lot of damage in the gardens big east tournament year in and year out.

Stop. Ive lived between CT and Boston/Worcester areas my entire life. CT is NOT a suburb of New York. Maybe southern Fairfield county because they have a lot of people that commute to the city, but thats it.
Uconn is really the only legit sports team we have, and it spreads out to the counterparts around the state. Quinnipiac and Yale are a joke athletically. We just got the Whalers back, but thats not the NHL anymore. And the WNBA...the Suns...they have no following at all.

Pretty much. Fairfield county identifies with NY more because of location obviously. I'm from stamford so my sports teams are more likely to be NY based then Mass based. Stors is like another world to me, its far away from Stamford that its like another part of Connecticut that i know nothing about but its the only team we have thats any good at anything. So if your from CT and like basketball you probably grew up or are growing up a Uconn fan.
Kinda like Kentucky with college basketball, only on a much smaller level and they have 2 schools, we really only have 1.
