I am really excited about this hire for many reasons. First of all i am excited about the chance to have a legitimate Chicagoish college ball team to root for. The last one was depaul with Richardson, mcphearson, etc. and I miss the college game. Collins with his experience at duke should be able to navigate the elite student athlete issue that hurts northwestern. He has roots and success recruiting the Chicagoland area ie Sean dockery and Schayer. He is the son of a pro coach which makes him a better coach.

I am also worried... The big ten is establishing itself as the power conference for bball, he has no head coach experience. it's not like the premiere Chicagoland talent meet nw academic requirements. IMO it is Tourney or bust within his first 3 years.

Should I get my hopes up? Do you think NW can be better than UofIllinois soon or ever? With this hire do you see NW ending its tourney drought? Please give me your thoughts on the hire and expectations.

They screwed up firing Carmody. He was a perfect fit for that program. Hiring Coach K's underling does not equal Coach K. Heck if you wanted to hire an underling, why not hire a Coach Matta underling? His track record is probably GOAT.

^no. carmody was complete and utter garage. i'm a NU alum and that @sshole has been around forever and not taken us to the tourney even when he had teams that could have and should have made it, like when shurna was playing.

I think Carmody was a good coach and did a decent job developing players. The problem was that he was not recruiting elite talent. I have mixed feelings about the firing because they were not likely going anywhere next year either.
