Skiles to coach at indiana?

Post#1 » by legacyinthemakin89c » Wed Mar 19, 2008 5:10 pm

Via Wiretap.

I genunily think Skiles can be an incredible college coach. I really didn't like him on the NBA level and his system didn't work, the egos were too high on the pro level. But on the college level, his system, I think, will work perfectly and he will be a very successful college coach.

There's no questioning his X's and O's ability. There's no questioning his abilities as a defensive coach. He runs incredibly taxing training camps and practices and he's very demanding of his players. He likes small ball and the 3 point shot and runs a guard oriented offense. But the big question of course will be can he recruit. If he can recruit IU would make a quick return to their glory days. If not then his massive coaching abilities won't really mean much. As a Bulls fan I wish him luck. He can be a stubborn, inflexible SOB. But he's a damn good, tough coach.
Jerry Reinsdorf; the undisputed king of allowing his GM's to run amok with unchecked power and ego. :king:

At this point, IU's just doing their due diligence in interviewing a guy that's living less than an hour from campus. With his lack of college experience (especially in regards to recruiting), I highly doubt the IU "Blue Ribbon" search committee would look to take him on.

Their most likely going to go with an experienced college head coach who has a near-pristine or better reputation in regards to academics (GPA and graduating players) and recruiting.

He would be one of the best coaches in the NCAA ranks, I hope Indiana goes in a different direction! College kids wouldn't be able pull any BS with Skiles in charge, very Coach K-esque, imo...
