Yeah and Bob Knight did the same thing with Damon Bailey when he was still in 8th grade back in the 80's. It happens. Often.

yeah it does. coaches need to let kids be kids and not worry about the expectations of playing with a school like kentucky. most of the time they change their minds anyway or the coach that recruited them leaves or gets fired

In my mind, it isn't a big deal because these players will often revoke such commitments. It's sort of like a way to put one's name out there, and it can potentially reel in some stars. A player's style could completely change in that given span of time. So, I wouldn't really worry about such an early commitment.
