While I am rooting for Michigan St. in this game, that was a terrible intentional foul call at home for Illinois. Meachum barely even touched Lucas and got a holding foul. Game changing play. That's not to say the Spartans wouldn't have won anyway though.

Yeah, that intentional foul was bogus. Kalin Lucas is the man though. I think he edges out Evan Turner for Big 10 POY.

ND is an absolute laughing stock of a team. They play with no heart and disgust me.

Horizon League tournament begins tomorrow.
I personally feel that Cleveland St., UIC, Loyola, and Wright St. will win tomorrow.
It's going to be interesting for whoever wins the top of the bracket. UIC or Cleveland St. will have to face Green Bay and then possibly Butler. If they come out on top, they may be an upset special first round because that is a tough road.
In other news, Patty Mills is cleared to play and St. Marys just got that much better.

I think the UConn game broke their spirit, since they realized by losing that they lost their tournament prospects.
That being said, it was a pretty poor showing against Villanova. I remember some people had them pegged as a potential Final Four team preseason...

I was just disgusted with the lack of heart that they played with. I got a little caught up in the moment and I probably should apologize to Irish fans, but I'm sure they are just as frustrated as I was.

FWIW, Georgetown is finished after losing to St. John's in overtime. They had a chance if they ran the table in the regular season, and won 2-3 games in the Big East tournament (a #1 strength of schedule will do that), but a bad loss like this late in the season spells doom.
Not to mention, now they're guaranteed to finish in the bottom 8 of the Big East, and will need to win 5 games in 5 days to take the Big East tourney.

Hey, if Georgetown plays the way they did against UConn earlier in the year, anything is possible. But, yeah, it was a tough loss for them. Questionable call on the foul against them to set up free throws and overtime. Still, it's inexcusable that they couldn't hold that lead.

well i think with tonights win oklahoma state is gonna make the tourney. we dont have any amazing wins (though if the right call was made we'd have a W over mizzou) but we havent lost to anyone we were supposed to either. this is assuming in the 1st round of the big 12 tourney they dont lose to a team like colorado or texas tech

Right now they're on the good side of the bubble, especially considering how well they have been playing recently, but I don't think they're locks by any stretch yet. Sure their only bad loss was Baylor (and that's not even too bad) but they just have no marquee wins. Siena? Texas? A&M? If they can upset Oklahoma in the season finale they're set (obviously).
Since the OK game is likely a loss, the Big 12 tourney is huge. I'm not sold that 1 win would clinch it. 2 would though, since they'd likely have to beat Oklahoma, Kansas or Missouri in the 2nd round.
Maybe someone knows, I'm not sure how the Big 12 tiebreaker works. If Oklahoma St., Kansas St, and Texas all end up 9-7, who gets the 4 seed?

You almost blew it though. Nice work at the free throw line to halt that comeback.

I really feel for Marquette. Since losing James, they played UConn tough, Louisville extremely tough (in Freedom Hall no less) and now just lost to Pitt after being up 9 in the second half.
That's an absolutely brutal stretch of basketball, and none of those are games they would've been favored in anyway, but the fact that they lost them AFTER losing James to injury will likely hurt their seeding even more. There's no doubt in my mind though that they are still a dangerous team.

What a finish to the Penn State/Illinois game. Penn State basically blanks the Illini over the final 3 minutes to come back from 8 down. Mike Davis misses the front end of a one and one with 9 seconds left up by 1 and Talor Battle goes the length of the floor and throws up a crazy layup over 2 guys with .3 left. Nittany Lions definitely in the Dance now. Congrats to Penn State. And also props to Northwestern this season with wins at Michigan State and Purdue, home wins against Minnesota, Ohio State and Florida State, and excruciating near losses to Purdue and Illinois. And who knows, a little Big Ten tourny run and the Wildcats may finally get their first ever NCAA tourny bid.

Wouldn't their nonconference sort of count them out of the Dance? ^
Northwestern, that is.

Yeah, I definitely think Northwestern is NIT bound. They do have a good non-con win over Florida State, but I don't think that's enough. Of course if they win at Ohio State this weekend to sweep the Buckeyes, then make a run in the conference tourny and knock off a Michigan State or Purdue again and maybe an Illinois or someone else and get all the way to the conference tourny championship game then they would definitely be in the discussion for a tourny bid. But I ultimately see them NIT bound, a nonetheless very successful season for Carmody and Northwestern.
