Seth Davis' Magic-Bird book

So Seth Davis wrote a book about the Indiana State - Michigan State Championship game. To be honest, I'm not all that interested in the book, despite being a Spartan fan. I just found one of Davis' interview answers funny. It makes him sound like a callous bastard:

Thank God for other people's misfortunes.
BTW:
Manna: –noun
1. the food miraculously supplied to the Israelites in the wilderness. Ex. 16:14–36.
2. any sudden or unexpected help, advantage, or aid to success.
3. divine or spiritual food.
4. the exudation of the ash Fraxinus ornus and related plants: source of mannitol.
I'll be honest, I didn't know that word.

Interviewer: Bill Hodges is actually one of the sadder parts of the story -- he goes to the NCAA Title game and then all of a sudden, the next year, his life is in turmoil and he's practically banished from coaching.
Seth Davis: It's amazing, isn't it? As a writer, you hope to just have one story like that to tell in the book. Having four guys like that -- who were all so accomplished and complex and sympathetic in some ways -- it was like manna from heaven.
