33-0 Uconn Ladies

Post#1 » by Dedicated_76ers_fan » Wed Mar 11, 2009 5:53 am

Why isn't there a thread on this team and the beast that is Maya Moore? This is arguably and easily the best job Gene has ever done and this is the best team possibly in Woman's college basketball. Maybe they can play .500 ball in the men's league. They're just flatout dominate.

They have Size, they have shooting from all angles and excellent PG play. No offence Oklahoma, but in order to win. You're going to have to find a way to stop that inside-outside attack of UConn. And that's no easy task........To say the least.

Does anyone think they'll run the table? Or end up like the 2008 New England Patriots?

No. :wavefinger:

Now, winning the Big East championship game by what, 40? They are so much better than any other team in womens college basketball it's not even funny. I saw on Sportscenter that their average margin of victory is like 31 points. 23 of their 33 wins have been by 20+ points. Maya Moore is like a Grant Hill in his prime. She's the truth. Being a Maryland alum I'd love to see the Lady Terps get a crack at UConn though. Kristi Toliver and Marissa Coleman have to be the best duo in womens basketball. They were major, major parts of a National Championship team as freshmen (something Maya Moore and company don't have yet). And now as seniors they are ready for one last tourny run together. They'll both be big time WNBA players. Still though, womens college basketball clearly lacks depth if one team is able to dominate to this degree. The gap between one team and the rest of the field should never be this big.

Indeed, it's really because of Moore for women she's unguardable. At 6'0(That's like 6'10 for women), with the perimeter skills of a guard(Wonder if a bro taught her how to play ball). She's a double-threat like no other. Only Candace Parker had such excellent perimeter abilities for a forward.

Of course, as talented as this team is, they're still not even close to the 2002 UConn women's team. That team was far and away the best team ever in women's college basketball history.

Still great job by Geno. Six games left though. This year's team, while the best in the country, is definitely beatable.
