John Calipari accepts UK job

John Calipari accepted the UK job to become the highest paid coach in college basketball, and the highest paid STATE Employee in Kentucky.
This is clearly an ego move because how do you leave a school that has been to the finals, and gets the sweet 16 the next year led by freshman. Only to have the greatest incoming freshman class in the history of basketball on the wings?
That has to be nothing more than ego: What feeds ego?
1. Money
2. Respect from people you dont think respect you and you give a damn about that.
3. Showing others you can leave something you tell everyone you love because the grass is supposedly greener on the other side.
4. Money
5. Power he must feel this job gives him the type of power that no other coach or school can look down on him for he is highest, and thickest of all the branches.

Then if EGO = John Calipari
I truly hope Memphis team lands someone that can replace their broken hearts, because this move is just another major blow to all small schools across the nation.
As for Kentucky remember Rich Rodriquez - Michigan before you think this is an automatic trip back to the final 4 sometime soon.

It's Kentucky. Most young coaches dream of coaching at a place like that. Calipari's dream just came true. Memphis should be thankful Calipari made them relevant again and move on as quickly as possibly and try and get a top notch young coach and recruiter. Who wants to beat up on Conference USA for the rest of their career?

UK sold their soul for wins. Memphis plays nothing like what UK fans like, I know i lived in Lexington for 2 years. They play like Louisville, who according to UK fan are just a bunch of thugs.

You must not remember the Pitino years. Kentucky was full court pressing (like Louisville today) all the way back in the early 90's. And they did it much better than even Louisville is doing it now.

Just wait in the upcoming 3-4 weeks to see how the dominoes fall regarding Memphis' epic recruiting class. Now they have 3 options:

1) Stay at Memphis (and the uncertainty with the coaching situation)
2) Follow Calipari to Kentucky
3) Reopen the recruiting process

If some prospects reopen the process and select new schools, this could even have further effects on other recruits those schools have, not wanting to risk losing playing time behind a top-flight player.

I think they will follow him to kentucky if someone isnt named soon as a replacement. ITs a joke the way Memphis acts like this hasnt made a huge void in the school... Ask the fans they seem to know something potentially great has just ended.

Oh, it certainly did. And, I doubt all those guys will be following Coach Cal to UK. We'll see.

Kentucky's tradition is uptempo basketball, CCSF. I think you know this. They are going to be much happier watching Calipari's style of play than Tubby's or Gillispie's. As for Calipari, he went to UK for the same reason someone would want to go to UCLA, North Carolina, Duke or Kansas. For the same reason that Pitino regreted his decision to go to Boston. Calipari is going to be a star and embraced by Kentucky fans.

I hope he fails miserably and gets the axe. What a sellout.
