Shangrila's mock

Post#1 » by shangrila » Thu May 27, 2010 11:19 am

Team needs are taken into account, as well as a few rumours.

1. Washington - John Wall, PG: No explanation needed.

2. Philadelphia - Evan Turner, SG: I know there's been some speculation about fit and other prospects here but I think Turner is too skilled not to take. Collins should be able to make it work.

3. New Jersey - Derrick Favors, PF/C: Fits with Lopez in the front court and gives them a long term answer at the 4.

4. Minnesota - DeMarcus Cousins, C: Gives them a long term solution at the centre spot and is the BPA at this point.

5. Sacramento - Cole Aldrich, C: A safe pick but one that should improve their overall team and give them the shot blocker and overall solid defender in the middle they've been missing.

6. Golden State - Wesley Johnson, SF: He's the BPA and while he's not a perfect fit he's better then what they have there now, plus his skill set fits their system like a glove.

7. Detroit - Greg Monroe, PF/C: They need size and he brings it, even if he doesn't have the usual Detroit toughness.

8. Los Angeles - Al-Farouq Aminu, SF/PF: BPA and gives them some length and potential at the small forward position.

9. Utah - Ekpe Udoh, PF/C: Not too sure about this pick tbh, but Udoh can provide them with the shot blocking they don't seem to have while bringing depth and a Boozer insurance.

10. Indiana - Ed Davis, PF: Not the other star they need to put with Granger but with Murphy likely gone before the end of the season and Hansborough not looking like a starter, Davis gives them some long term security at power forward. He's also a smart guy that shouldn't have a problem picking up their system.

11. New Orleans - Donatas Montiejunas, PF/C: Another tough pick as it's hard to tell whether they'd go with potential or production, considering the success they've had with guys like Collison and Thornton and the failures they've had with Wright and co. I think they'll go with the Euro because he has enough potential and skill to provide decent depth at the big men spot for the next season, which is what they need.

12. Memphis - Luke Babbitt, SF/PF: I regurgitated Ford on this one but it does make some sense. Their biggest weakness was their bench this season and even if this is a small reach it improves their bench incredibly for next season.

13. Toronto - Daniel Orton, PF/C: Another tough pick but he's got the potential to be a starter down the line and would either provide depth or be a good compliment to Bargnani if Bosh leaves.

14. Houston - Hassan Whiteside, PF/C: A long term project but one they can afford with Yao and the Australian. He could be a good player if he reaches his potential and he's got a good chance of doing it with Houston's coaching staff.

15. Milwaukee - Patrick Patterson, PF: I know they need a wing but I don't think they'd want to pass up the tough power forward they've needed for a while. Patterson is definitely a Scott Skiles guy.

16. Minnesota - Paul George, SG/SF: They need length, athleticism and shooting from the wing and he fits that to the letter. Next to Whiteside is probably the highest risk/reward player in the draft, but at 16 is worth it. I'll admit though that once the draft rolls around I don't think he'll be here.

17. Chicago - Xavier Henry, SG/SF: A hard working wing that can spread the floor for them, which is exactly what they need.

18. Miami - Soloman Alabi, C: A reach but they need some height even in the unlikely scenario they get a Bosh or Amare. He's raw but as a defensive presence shouldn't be a bad fit and could be a long term answer for them. Bledsoe is also an option and some will say they need a PG more but I can't agree with their small size.

19. Boston - James Anderson, SG/SF: An interesting position for them and they could go with someone like Bradley or Bledsoe for depth, but Anderson gives them some depth on the wings and a shooter in case Ray leaves. I'd like to note that I think if Bledsoe or Bradley last to, say, one of the Memphis picks they should look at buying it. They really need depth behind Rondo as well.

20. San Antonio - Damion James, SF/PF: Young, athletic, defensively minded wing that gives them some youth on the wing and fits their style/system perfectly.

21. Oklahoma City - Gordon Hayward, SF: More of a value pick then anything else but Hayward could give them something off the bench. With all the centres off the board there's not a lot here for them. Just another in a long line of tough picks for teams that seem to have fallen through the cracks in this deep draft.

22. Portland - Larry Sanders, PF: More big man depth and something different to back Aldridge up.

23. Minnesota - Kevin Seraphin, PF: Athletic Ibaka-like overseas prospect that would likely spend another season in France and come over next year with Rubio. Gives them some athleticism at the 4 that they haven't had since they traded Garnett.

24. Atlanta - Stanley Robinson, SF/PF: No centres available so might as well take an athletic hustle guy that can help you off the bench.

25. Memphis - Eric Bledsoe, PG: An interesting prospect at point guard that could give them something different to Conley. If nothing else he'd upgrade their bench.

26. Oklahoma City - Gani Lawal, PF: A tough minded power forward that could give them something different to Ibaka and Green. Again, without any valuable centres here they seem to have a much tougher draft compared to other teams for finding the right fits.

27. New Jersey - Willie Warren, SG: Still has some potential as a spark plug and could excel in a role where he's not the #1 option, like when he was with Griffin.

28. Memphis - Avery Bradley, G: If he falls this far, and I doubt he does, then they'd take him and likely shop him. I've already mentioned Boston as a potential suitor but I won't go in to trades in this mock. We'll just call it a value pick.

29. Orlando - Elliot Williams, SG: Not really a need but could fill the role Courtney Lee had for them a few seasons ago and would be good insurance in case Reddick left.

30. Washington - Quincy Pondexter, SF: A solid all round player that's also the home town boy. While he's not a star or even a starter he should be a quality contributor from day 1.
