1st Round Mock w/ explanations

Post#1 » by mglviks1 » Wed Jun 13, 2012 12:01 am

1. New Orleans Anthony Davis PF/C Kentucky... Should be a Lock

2. Charlotte Bobcats Michael Kidd-Gilchrist SF Kentucky... Char opts for the High Energy, Defensive enforcer, not the biggest scorer, but best all around player. kids got heart. Jordons Pippen

3. Washington Wizards Bradley Beal SG Florida... Beal/Wall is just too perfect..

4. Cleveland Cavaliers Andre Drummond C UConn.. Pass on Barnes and goes oldschool thought, of tie goes to the 7 footer. Drummond has high upside and could be dominate, but has risk.

5. Sacramento Kings Harrison Barnes Sf NC... Sac wont hesitate with this pick, as Barnes fills a direct need.. and Drummond off the board makes this real easy..

6. Portland Trailblazers Damian Lillard PG Weber ST. I think Portland wanted to wait til their 2nd pick with PG, but the pgs are rising and if lillard and marshall are gone.. they play it safe and take Lillard maybe a couple spots high, but fills biggest need..draft is deep w/ bigs for 2nd pick

7. Golden St Warriors Thomas Robinson PF Falls into GS laps...the DWilliams clone could go as high as 2...I believe GS made Waiters the top 10 promise, not thinking Robinson/Beal/Barnes would get to them.

8. Toronto Raptors Kendell Marshall PG North Carolina... Calderon at 10mil and sub Ridnour/Barea play will likely be Amisty'd, combined w/ Bayless.. they need pg of the future.. they can live w/ DeRozan/Klenza over living w/ Calderon/Bayless

9. Detroit Pistons John Henson PF NC.... Monroe is a dominate Center at pf size, it doesnt hurt him on offense, but he needs a shotblocker next to him on D.. Henson is Tall, strong, tenacious..

10. New Orleans Hornets Jared Sullinger PF Ohio St... Well the big men for NO are set in stone for the next decade.. Davis/Sully is a outstanding and young one two punch upfront.

11. Portland Trailblazers Myers Leonard C Iowa St.... Can I be Raciest for a moment. I think people look at him as the white guy..(Ala kosta Kufos and those types, skilled but unathletic), but this guy plays like a black man with hops, quickness(4 size), and shot blocking abilitys.. again I apologize for defining him this way, but I think its the best way to discribe his play.

12. Milwaukee Bucks Tyler Zeller C North Carolina..... Goodbye Bogurt hello Zeller...

13. Phoenix Suns Dion Waiters Sg/Pg Syr... Waiters drops from 7th(I think) to here with Lillard and Marshall sneaking up.

14. Houston Rockets Austin Rivers Sg Duke...Lee is still a RFA and Martin has 1 year left on contract and both have been brought up as potiential trade guys. likely one will go, maybe both.

15. Philadelphia 76ers Perry Jones PF Baylor... Playoffs proved to 76ers they need help at the bigs. PJ3 gives them some length upfront..w/ high upside...

16. Houston Rockets Terrence Jones PF Kent.... Jones is too good to pass up.. though they have Scola,Morris and Patterson who all man the 4.. Dmonty is a 5.. No PGs to be had hmm Lowry, Harkless could be the pick, but they have Parsons and Budinger(RFA).. Something is being moved in Houston if not alot.

17. Dallas Mavericks Jeremy Lamb Sg Uconn....Aging team needs youth everywhere... Lamb is a lotto pick every year, but this one...

18. Minnesota Timberwolves Terrence Ross Sg/Sf Wash....until a moment ago I had harkless here, as I think it will be easier to find a Sg in FA/Trade then a SF.. But Ross is a Kahn size Sg and can hit the 3... The combination of someones Wes comparison and someones amazingly perfect bad nickname of Heartless helped changed my pick... Though I may go back.

19. Orlando Magic Moe Harkless Sf St. Johns.....this team could select any position and Harkless has athleticm, build and upside that is very apealling..

20. Denver Nuggets Arnett Moultrie Pf/C Miss st......Nene clone....

21. Boston Celtics Royce White PF Iowa St.....Good strong upper management should keep him in line.

22. Boston Celtics Quincy Miller Sf Baylor.... Still huge upside and raw abilitys..

23. Atlanta Hawks Tony Wroten Pg/Sg Wash..... Nice fit, w Hinrich showing him how its done.

24. Cleveland Cavs Jeff Taylor Sf Vandy.... talk of SF at the 4th pick,Taylor gives them a great Defender, to go w/ Irving/TT/Drummond

25. Memphis Grizzlies John Jenkins Sg Vandy... Mayo is a RFA and heavy contracts of Gay/rand may make it to hard to retain OJ. Jenkins can flat out shoot.

26. Indianapolis Pacers ....Draymond Green Sf Mich St Solid young team on the rise. takes a guy who plays like a playoff savy vet.. not the high upside, just a winner, smart, hard worker.

27. Miami Heat Fab Melo C Syr..... Should fit in nicely w/ the others on the team w/ a big head

28. Oklahoma City Thunder Andrew Nickolson Pf St. Boni... A Sg here would get me exicited about Harden possibilitys, but they look for an heir to Ibaka

29. Chicago Bulls Tyshawn Taylor Pg Kan... Best PG left..

30. Golden St Warriors Evan Founier Sf Inter..... Liked Will Barton in the 1st but I guess not.

No chance Bucks pass up Lamb/Rivers/Ross/Jones III/Waiters/Terrence Jones for Zeller. Just because Bogut is gone doesn't mean they will draft a stiff center just to replace him over 6 different prospects with 10x higher ceilings. Thats just non sense. Any GM that considers doing that doesn't deserve a job. Plus, Lamb falling to 17 seems just as far fetched. Like I said, Lamb doesn't make it past Milwaukee if hes still even on the board.

Ps. It's Thomas Robinson, not Terence Robinson.

No offense for the Cavs makes it a no go.

Have to agree.

Cavaliers need points. That's why people (includeing me) expect them to take Barnes if he's there. They've got Thompson and AV for their bigs and neither can score (both move well without the ball, but can't get their own). Then you add Drummond to that who's production will likely be more of the same.

Taylor is a nice fit later if they took Barnes or Beal but if not, you're adding another athletic defender who can't score. Someone on the team (besides Irving) needs to be able to shoot the ball.

If you're locked into Drummond at #4, John Jenkins makes a lot more sense at #24.

Can't see Robinson dropping that far.

I also can't see why GS would make Waiters a promise...we have a young SG that we love in Klay Thompson, and much more pressing issues that need to be dealt with.

So apparently you hate the Blazers and are a warriors fan?

Robinson won't last until 7, and Portland wouldn't pass on him since he is probably the second best player in the draft, just to get a PG.
