Doordoor123 2015 Mock Draft V.6 *Updated

Post#1 » by doordoor123 » Mon May 18, 2015 11:14 pm

Hey Guys, I didn't realize I could keep editing my post. I'm putting my newest mocks on the forefront. I did some research put this one together.

MOCK DRAFT 2015 V.6

1. MIN: Anthony Karl-Towns
Why Towns? Towns is the best prospect in the draft and fits the needs of the Timberwolves to a "T." He will eventually get picked over other options for his fit and upside.

2. LAL: Jahlil Okafor
Why Okafor? Kupchak has been using clear smokescreens because Okafor fits the kind of player the Lakers love (a big that can draw doubles in the post). He won't choose Russell because the lack of visible upside and because he's not a sure thing while Okafor is. The Lakers want the sure-thing.

3. PHI: D'Angelo Russell
Why Russell? I'm back and forth between Russell, Mudiay and Porzingis. The 76ers should pick Russell based on fit, but they could also go for Mudiay (who they fell in love with earlier) or Porzingis (who could be used as an asset). Then I heard they were trying to force Saric over. This leads me to believe they'll go with fit and see what happens with their young building blocks. I say they take Russell, but with Embiid's injury issues once again coming up and Noel's great fit at center, the 76ers could take Porzingis. For now I'll go with Russell.

4. NYK: Emmanuel Mudiay
Why Mudiay? Even if he doesn't fit the triangle, he has the most upside on the board and his body is ready to compete coming in. The Knicks need a good pick here and Mudiay is the closest thing they'll get to a sure-fire future star. I'm convinced Phil Jackson is creating a storm hoping Russell, Okafor or Towns fall to them. In the end, they'll take Mudiay. After last season's terrible record, too much pressure is resting on this pick.

5. ORL: Mario Hezonja
Why Hezonja? The Magic have their own board and will not choose the prospect we think they'll choose. While Porzingis fits the team, the Magic have cap room and they'll be able to fill the shot-blocking void through trades or free agency. I'm not convinced they'll full that role with a draft pick especially since they tried getting interior defense last season after drafting Aaron Gordon. Instead, I think they get a little scoring off the bench and possible insurance if Harris leaves. There's word out there that Hezonja compares to T-Mac and if it holds true, what better place to go than the Magic? My guess if the comparison came from the Magic's organization because they actually know what drafting T-Mac was like.

6. SAC: Willie Cauley-Stein
Why Cauley-Stein? George Karl and the Kings have expressed love for Cauley-Stein and they would love to pair him with Boogie Cousins. His defense is something the Kings need and I think they need that defense so much that they'll pass on the upside of any other player.

7. DEN: Kristaps Porzingis
Why Porzingis? The Nuggets are shopping most of their players and one position they've been trying to fill for a long time is power forward. They want a power forward that can stretch the floor, defend and run the floor. Porzingis can do all of it, fit in and could possibly be the franchise player the Nuggets have needed since Carmelo left the team. In this rebuilding stage, they'll pick the best player available and Porzingis is it.

8. DET: Myles Turner
Why Turner? After showing he can be pretty mobile, he looks like a top pick in this draft and he fits Van Gundy's system. There's a ton of upside and he, alongside Drummond could be the foundations of a scary front-court in the future. Ilyasova is a nice stop-gap stretch-four as Turner catches up to speed.

9. CHA: Justice Winslow
Why Winslow? The Hornets would love a scorer here, but at this point, Winslow is the best player on the board and he could fit the team well as this team regains its identity as a great defensive team. He and Kidd-Gilchrist could be the scariest back-court defense in the league. Winslow could also help grabbing boards for a team that could use some rebounding.

10. MIA: Stanley Johnson
Why Johnson? The Heat desperately need defense on the wing and Johnson could learn how to fill the void left by LeBron James as they both have big, strong bodies and both have great defensive instincts. The three guys I keep hearing from the Heat are Kaminsky, Dekker and Johnson. Of the three, Johnson fits a need and he's the youngest. I think he's the pick here.

11. IND: Frank Kaminsky
Why Kaminsky? Indiana has been in love with Kaminsky and as much as I think they'd love Cameron Payne, Kaminsky does a lot more for them. He adds versatility and catapults their front court into a new offense. There won't be any stretch fours on the market that can do what Kaminsky does, but there will be point guards that can run with George (there are a lot of good point guards in the league) and that seems to be the selling-point for the Pacers to pick Payne. Kaminsky adds offense the Pacers need and completes what they're trying to do. He's also ready to play right now.

12. UTAH: Trey Lyles
Why Lyles? The Jazz have missed out on bringing in an overseas big and could use one on the court next season. Rumor is they're looking for a big that can stretch the floor and create versatility off the bench. Lyles fits in with the Jazz's offense even if he isn't a complete stretch four, but it's okay because next season will be a development year and we'll get to see where their roster is at. Exum, Gobert and Hood still need to develop and who knows what'll happen with Burke? Talk of chasing Millsap in free agency scares me from this pick a bit, but in the end, Lyles has value and I think the Jazz take him.

13. PHO: Sam Dekker
Why Dekker? The Suns will most likely shoot for a player that can help them right away and they like Dekker. Eventually, the hope is that he defends the small-ball four as well as the three. He creates diversity in the line-up and puts another shooter on the floor.

14. OKC: Cameron Payne
Why Payne? OKC likes to throw around promises to players and the rumor is that they promised Payne they'd pick him. I believe they would take him if he fell to them and I think he will fall to them. The Thunder are looking for upside rather than fit because their roster is virtually full with players drafted in previous years also looking to make the main roster.

15. ATL: Devin Booker
Why Booker? We all saw the playoffs and how losing Korver stunts the entire time. With Booker, you're getting a guy that can possibly step up if Korver has issues next season. Korver is also getting older and Booker would be a great replacement in the future. Next season the Hawks will get the next Rudy Gobert in Walter Tavares and they'll likely resign Millsap. They also have enough cap room to fill out the rest of their back up front court, which I think they will use because they won't use a draft pick on "need."

16. BOS: Bobby Portis
Why Portis? The Celtics are looking for their future center or at least some depth in that position. Portis would need time to learn, but a solid building-block for the Celtics future. Portis is the last big of this tier and the Celtics would be happy to have another hard-working energizer.

17. MIL: Kelly Oubre
Why Oubre? Jason Kidd has said that he wants three-point shooting, but Oubre isn't a proven shooter. That's okay because no young player has figured out their role on this team yet. Oubre brings something that this team loves -- length. And he would be a pest on the wing. He's also the guy with the highest upside on the board.

18. HOU: Tyus Jones
Why Jones? Morey will be getting Sergio Lull next season and they still have Nick Johnson waiting on the wing, but he still hasn't proved he could be a point guard. Tyus Jones is a nice boom or bust player because the analytics love him, but his athleticism works against him. We've seen non-athletic players become better athletes and I wouldn't completely write Jones off at 19 years old. If Jones works out, it's a huge win for the Rockets (who love him) and if not, it's no skin off their bones.

19. WAS: Jerian Grant
Why Grant? The Wizards front office like to utilize every player and when they draft, they draft for need. It was apparent for their terrible end of the season that they needed a bench scorer and a guy that can play point guard when Wall isn't playing (and Wall seems to be absent at some point in most seasons). Grant is a guy that can some in and contribute right away at that position.

20. TOR: Montrezl Harrell
Why Harrell? The Raptors struggle with intensity inside the paint, grabbing boards and defending in the paint. Harrell does all of that and he should be ready right now to contribute. The Raptors aren't ready to close their title-hope window and with news of Kevon Looney's asthma, Harrell is the likely pick here. The hole that Louis Williams left will more likely be filled by free agency because I doubt the Raptors expect a rookie to score the way he did.

21. DAL: RJ Hunter
Why Hunter? Dallas could inject some youth on this team and Hunter is a guy who could help spread the floor. The Mavericks could also use another ball-handler and Hunter could handle the ball if need be. He's also a guy with upside and the Mavericks could use someone with upside.

22. CHI: Terry Rozier
Why Rozier? This Bulls front office likes to get guys with upside this late in the draft. Rozier has been impressing so much that he is believed to be a first round lock. Similar rumors surrounded Tony Snell when he was drafted. They like long guys with potential, but with Thibs gone, they could go another route. Right now, I'll stick with Rozier.

23. POR: Rondae Hollis-Jefferson
Why Hollis-Jefferson? With Afflalo likely gone and Wesley Matthews hanging on Aldridge's free agency choice, Hollis-Jefferson could be great insurance and a guy that can replace that defensive tenacity. The Blazers reportedly love Hollis-Jefferson and he could be the steal of the draft. If the Blazers are confident in their wing players returning, they'll likely go big, but they really like Hollis-Jefferson.

24. CLE: Delon Wright
Why Wright? Cleveland will be lucky if any of the first round point guards make it to them, but if they do (and I have them taking one), they'll take whatever is available. Here I have them taking Wright, who could fill Dellavedova's role if he wants more money and can't resign with the Cavs. He could defend for them and he could actually play point guard better.

25. MEM: Christian Wood
Why Wood? The Grizzlies front court is getting older, Leuer won't become a franchise player and Stokes is a place-holder. Wood has tons of upside and could could learn behind two of the best front court players in the league. He also brings athleticism to the front court that the Grizzlies lack.

26. SAS: Kevon Looney
Why Looney? Yes, he has asthma issues now and it might take some time to master at a professional level, but Looney has tons of upside and the Spurs are willing to gamble on any player that slips to them. And they don't fear a player that's two years away from being ready to contribute. Looney on the team could catapult the Spurs back in the playoffs when Duncan and Ginobili are gone. He's also be a nice replacement for Diaw when he leaves.

27. LAL: Justin Anderson
Why Anderson? I would be surprised if Anderson fell this far, but as it is, I have him going this far back. The Lakers could use defense and athleticism on the wing and by this point they'll take the wing that falls in the draft.

28. BOS: Rashad Vaughn
Why Vaughn? This is another guy who should be gone earlier, but his lack of athleticism pushes him back a bit. Boston could always use some more scoring from the bench.

29. BKN: Chris McCullough
Why McCullough? He has been a Nets fan his whole life and the Nets need someone with passion and a bright future. The front-court of the future looks bright next to either Plumlee or Lopez.

30. GSW: Rakeem Christmas
Why Christmas? Christmas has been on the rise and for good reason. He's a guy that could defend in a smaller line-up and could fit in both power forward or center positions. I think it's more likely they go for a point guard -- I'll edit this soon enough.

I pretty much changed my whole mock. This is how I see it happening if there are no surprises. *edited list*

I must be blind because you do not have Devin Booker listed. He will go in the top 20 for sure, most likely top 15.

Lol I totally forgot him. I fixed it and updated it a bit based on what I'm hearing from around the league, etc.

Miami will take Booker over Myles Turner. Their frontcourt is very solid with Whiteside, Bosh, McBob, Birdman and Beasley already. Miami desperately lacks at wing/SG position.

Funny you say that, those are the two players I have the hardest time figuring out. Booker, I think, is getting overrated by fans because of his measurements. The Heat are looking to contend now rather than wait and their roster is pretty full next season (especially in the frontcourt). I think if they need help, they'll do it in free agency or through trades. If they don't trade their pick, I think they go for upside. Turner has that upside and could potentially play alongside Whiteside in the future. Worse comes to worse, they have a tradable assett. I think Heat get the best player available here. Turner also doesn't really fit many other places, but deserves to be a top 10 pick. If the Heat don't take him, he could really fall and someone could get really lucky. I'm also afraid he's drafted my the wrong team.

Is there a way so can delete this post? This was an incomplete mock and I think there will be a lot of trades. I don't think any of this is set in stone.
