Scrabbarista's 2018 Mock Draft 2.0
Pick order based on tankathon's lottery simulator using current odds. Picks are who I would pick if I were the team picking (given those teams' current rosters). The names listed are really the only guys I've looked at, so I'm not saying these are necessarily the very best prospects.
1. Philadelphia 76ers - Marvin Bagley
2. Atlanta Hawks - Mohamed Bamba
3. Memphis Grizzlies - Luka Doncic
4. Orlando Magic - Trae Young
5. Sacramento Kings - Michael Porter Jr.
6. Dallas Mavericks - DeAndre Ayton
7. Cleveland Cavaliers - Colin Sexton
Bagley III - A little Chris Webber, a little Chris Bosh, a little Dennis Rodman. He looks like the most surefire prospect right now.
Porter Jr. - Physical talent and skill are franchise player level. Ceiling might be to Durant what Kobe was to Jordan.
Bamba - Questions about his motor and IQ (aggressiveness, shot selection, hustle, defensive positioning), but if his attitude is right, we could be looking at a more skilled Gobert or a Mutumbo-like impact. Can he be a fighter?
Sexton - I see a Kyle Lowry level talent in Sexton. He seems a virtual lock to reach his potential barring injury, so I'm high on him.
Ayton - He has come on a bit and shown some of the aggression I want to see, but still some potential to bust here. I might be spectacularly wrong (and I might change my mind in the coming months), but I just have a bad feeling about the way he moves on the court.
Doncic - Tremendous IQ, extremely skilled. His athleticism is going to cap his impact, and I don't know if he'll want to be in Memphis, but for now he sits at #3. He is more efficient than I thought he was when I did my last mock.
Young - Phenomenally skilled in multiple aspects. I think he has about zero chance to be as good as Steph Curry on offense or defense, but he's had an undeniably immense effect on OU's team. His passing sets him apart from previous D1 gunner-busts.

Interesting to here your thoughts, like everyone here, but I have to disagree on Ayton. Maybe he doesn't live up to his complete potential, but is there really 'bust factor'? On sheer natural talent and genetics he should be a good NBA player. Just something to consider from my view. I know door just mocked him similarly low so you're not alone.

It's not Ayton's bust factor itself that surprised me most, everyone sees bust factor differently I guess, but the perceived relative bust factors of Bamba and Ayton. It's very hard for me to imagine a set rules under which Ayton is considered to be a high bust chance prospect and at the same time Bamba is not at least as probable to be a bust if not more.

Im glad you wouldn't be making the hawks pick then if thats who you would choose at 2. I would take Luka or Ayton easily before Bamba. If anything and we had to get Bamba then i would trade down to anyone wanting to come up for luka, ayton, or Porter. Bamba + picks or players is something i might be interested in but at 2 over those other 3 guys no way im doing that.

As a Mavs fan I’m perfectly fine with Dennis being the long term PG. This draft is loaded with really good bigs and the Mavs need to get one.

Have you ever seen this guy play? He is a **** beast.
The process to get to that conclusion: He is white, so he lacks athleticism.

I'm higher on Doncic now than I was when I made this list. Also lower on Bamba. Also higher on Ayton. That doesn't mean they've necessarily moved on my big board - it's a question of degree - but I'll make a new mock soon and see how it goes.

I've seen the 5-8 minute highlights for his last 20 or 30 games, plus highlights from another 20 or so games before this season. Many of those highlight packages also included all possessions used. I haven't seen a full game from start to finish.
I never said he lacks athleticism. [And please never call me racist again.] I said his athleticism will cap his impact. In other words, we typically expect the guys at the top of the lottery to have the kind of athleticism that would allow them, potentially, to become a superstar. I don't see Doncic as having superstar potential. (I.e., like a Top 5 guy in the league.) If I'm wrong about that, great.
Also, I am higher on Doncic now. I would probably take him second overall, but I'll decide for sure when I do my next mock very soon.

Racist? Lol, I just point that many people in the states have the biased assumption that european and white means poor defense and lack of athleticism.

Why would anyone takae your mock draft seriously if you couldn't even watch a full game of Doncic? did you even watch a full game of the other top 30 prospects?

You were clearly saying that I (not "many people in the states") believe Doncic "lacks athleticism" simply because I'm too ignorant to be aware of and see past a stereotype. Whatever word you want to use to describe said ignorance - "racist," "prejudiced" - it does not apply to me, and I do not and did not appreciate the unfounded implication that it does.

Because I've had my eyes on Doncic, and exclusively Doncic, for over four hours of action time (at his rate of about 25 minutes a game, that's over 10 full games). If you can't stare at a guy playing basketball for over four hours before you reach any conclusions about him, (plus time spent studying his stats and listening to the analysis of others), when are you allowed to reach conclusions? Six hours? Ten hours? Ten hours is probably more than all of the time he's spent on the court as a professional. And yes, I've watched full games of most of those on my list.

Bagley had me at hello. Well, tbh, I wasn't sold on him in HS - but the instant I saw him at the D1 level, I felt, like you said, that he was special. Aside from generational talents like LeBron, etc., he's everything you could want in a prospect, imo.

Im the same originally i wasn't all that impressed on him until i really got to sit down and watch him do work. Now he is my #1 guy in the entire draft followed by Luca then Ayton. If im the hawks i take Bags if he is there and build around him and collins for the future.
