Personally I still don't see Thon as a 1st round pick, much rather see the Nuggets select Labissiere at 15 and use 19 on Zizic (as a Euro-stash) or Murray. Thon has too much Hasheem Thabeet in his game for my liking.

You don't see Thon as a 1st rounder but you want the Nuggets to roll the dice on a guy who couldn't crack a college team's starting lineup instead? Both guys are risky upside plays, but only one has failed on the college level. That's not to say Skal can't become a player, but IMO he's a much scarier pick than Thon. I don't really see the Thabeet comparison. Thabeet wasn't near the athlete Thon is and because of that struggled with the speed and strength of NBA players. If Thon struggles in the NBA, it won't be for the same reasons Thabeet did.
I think both Skal and Thon are solid upside plays pretty much anywhere past the lottery, but I'd feel much better about taking Thon than Skal personally, and I was a huge Skal guy at the start of this season.

There's a workout video of those two guys going against each other and they both look like storks on roller skates. I wouldn't be too thrilled with either of them as a draft pick, especially since Denver is pretty set at the C spot.

I think teams will need to be patient with both guys, but athletically I think Maker has more tools at his disposal to be a real matchup nightmare if he develops correctly.

It is certainly possible. I'd be surprised if Boston ends up making the pick. I could easily see Hield or Dunn going #3 depending on who does the picking.

My view on him hasn't really changed, though his impressive workouts and better body are bringing me around a bit. I still am not a huge fan of Skal to the Magic, it is just looking more and more likely lately.

Is this 2017 draft more a top 5 draft instead of a top 2 for 2016? Just interested having swap rights with Brooklyn could be massive for next year...

The top 3 are definitely elite, after that it's too early to tell. But, there is certainly some intriguing talent in those next handful of guys.

Not far IMO. I'd think Phoenix and Minnesota would have real interest right behind them.

Hey Cammo,
I'm curious to see what your basis is? It seems like a lot of guys here just look at DX/Nbadraftnet/Chad Ford and try to pass it off with their own flavour. You seem to be one of the more popular Mock Draft creators on this board, so I'd like to know what your scouting basis is.
Thanks!

I always just try to use a common sense approach. I watch as much of these guys as I can and give them the eye test. At this point, I feel like I have a pretty good feel for who will and won't hack it in the NBA and why. Obviously, it's an eye of the beholder thing and I've been wrong plenty, and so much of how a player pans out involves where they end up. But, once you have a good grasp on the players, you just have to cross reference it with what other teams need, and then decide how much to weight need vs. just taking the best guy available.
I use DX and nbadraft.net to gleam information when I can, because they are obviously more plugged into scouts and such than I am, but I don't necessarily use their mock drafts, more their info.
I think it's just as simple as I know the college and pro game pretty well, and I've gotten pretty decent at scouting guys based on whether their skill sets can transfer. I'm not a big metrics guy, I prefer the eye test. There are plenty of guys making good mock drafts on this site, I think people just know me a little better and trust my track record to whatever degree. It's hard when you look at a list of mock drafts from people you don't know, because you have no idea what they actually know. People at least know that I've done it before and have had my share of good calls.

What second round prospect do you think has the best chance of having an impact on the NBA?
