I'm not sleeping on him. I actively decided he's not as good as I was thinking. So there's that.

Mind if I ask why? I know he's not athletic but he's long (pause) and smooth.

Right now I like the guys ahead of him more. They all have pros and cons. He's not young and he's not athletic. May be one of the best shooters in the Draft, but his ceiling seems pretty limited to me. YMMV.

A problem with Shake for me is that though he's got great shooting #'s it's very much as a spot up or stepping into it with a dribble guy. Doesn't look like he'll be able to shoot coming off motion consistently.

To your point on 38 off-screen plays according to Synergy he was in the 25th %-ile. Not good at all. Whereas on spot-up plays he was in the 98th %-ile.

Other bad categories: PNR-ball handler (39 %-ile); Transition (37 %-ile). These are not good signs for a guy who should be a secondary ball-handler/initiatior.

A guy I like more (that I initially had them adjacent order) is Shamet. His Synergy %-iles to compare:

PNR - 87 %-ile
Spot-up - 99 %-ile
Transition - 26 %-ile (not good!)
Off Screen - 93 %-ile
Cut - 90 %-ile

Shamet not a great athlete (which is probably why transition isn't good), but in terms of NBA skills, he's got all the makings of a wing shooter. I have much more confidence in him than Shake in that role.

Moved Huerter up a few slots. I'm really into him. Reminds me so much of Klay. It's possible at some point I move him up to the next higher tier. Also added Battle who just declared w/o agent.

This is my Big Board, not a mock really. So I would be $0 because he could easily get drafted top 5.

Does that make you happy?

Penny for your thoughts on these few guys -

Heurter - 10's quite high. It's taken me a long time to getting around to having a good look at him, definitely seems like a quality shooter, decent size, etc... what sort of caliber player do you see him becoming that warrants that #10 spot? Are there any additional facets to his game that I should look for from him?

Okogie - I really like him, obviously very productive player for his age, great defender/physical tools, do you see him becoming much more than a 3/D sort of guy though? That's underselling him a little bit because he does get to the line, does have a bit of shot versatility, etc., but I don't see any high level dynamism on that end.

Huerter's upside is a player like Klay. There's no getting around that comparison. Probably the most beautiful stroke in the class and lighting quick release. He's more athletic than Klay was coming out, arguably on par with Gordon Hayward or at least possibility of getting there. He can finish with both hands and was very good finishing around the rim. His tools on d are good enough to be an above average defender. He also is more "guardy" than most of the other wings in the class with good vision/passing skills, also ran some PNR with decent efficiency according to Synergy (50 %-ile). Transition, spot-up, and coming off screens, all with good or great efficiency. Basically he's the complete package and he's also worked on his body a lot the past few years (go back and look how skinny he was in high school). This gives me comfort projecting strength/body gains, which could lead to even more athletic gains.

As for Okogie I've actually soured on him a little bit because there are some issues with his explosiveness around the rim and finishing. But given the **** teammates and offense he was working with at GT and his having to carry a big load, he actually held up quite well. He may just end up a 3&D guy, but I think there's a chance he could be a secondary initiator.

I'm interested to see how all these guys look and measure at the Combine. Could definitely shake up my board a little next week!

I've watched a bit more and I like what I see. Was worried he was mainly just a catch and shoot guy but I've seen him run off screens and some other actions and his form is beautiful in all. His finishing looked good, as you said, willing to use both hands, and he's smart and has vision. Likewise, good team defender.

I do kind of question the athleticism a bit though. Is he an SG in your books? I kind of struggle to see him keeping up with 2's defensively, and whether he'll be able to finish and be much more than a shooter offensively because of those limitations. Hayward is really quite big and obviously put on a heap of mass. Maybe Heurter can do the same but it's a big projection to make.

Overall, I like what I see, though.

Klay, Redick, they are not much bigger nor much more athletic (pretty sure both are less athletic) than Huerter (Redick is only 6'4"). He's only going to get stronger with time. Both Hayward and Klay, for example, came into the league with questions about that. I remember people comparing Klay to Kevin Martin.

If there are dudes who are too skinny in this class it's guys like Shai, Shake, and Shamet. I'm not at all worried about Huerter. When I see a guy who can shoot like Huerter who is 6'6", has obviously passable athleticism and BBIQ, I'm not even going to hesitate to draft him high. I mean, I liked Kennard and I think Huerter has much more potential (and Kennard is easily one of the more underrated rookies this year).

lol, not at all

I'm just trying to ignore "conventional wisdom" and make my own judgements/evaluations as much as possible.

I like Okogie quite a bit, but something tells me he won't stay in the draft and will gamble on himself being a legit late lottery to early 20's pick next year in a weaker draft. I doubt he shoots up that high in this years draft.

Yeah, really liking both. I'm a little bit more tentative than you, but I'd say they're both easily 15-20 range guys. Whether in reality teams are eilling to overlook some of the bigger names to take one or both in the lottery, I'm not sure.
