05/20 Mock #1

Post#1 » by DanTown8587 » Thu May 20, 2010 5:43 pm

I usually wait until the lottery to make a mock because really, we don't need to "guess" and then see how things drastically change after.

1. Washington: John Wall-PG-Kentucky
Easy pick for the Wizards, need a play maker and really the only play maker in the draft.
2. Philadelphia: Evan Turner-G/F-Ohio State
Philly easily upgrades their talent and goes for the best player over best fit
3. New Jersey: Derrick Favors-PF-Georgia Tech
A Favors-Lopez front court is pretty great in both size and ability to score.
4. Minnesota: Al Farouq Aminu-SF-Wake Forest
I think the fact he is three years younger than Wes Johnson and has a higher ceiling intrigues the Wolves to pull the trigger
5. Sacramento: DeMarcus Cousins-C-Kentucky
A HUGE body down low, gives the Kings a good rotation of 4/5 who all do something different
6. Golden State: Avery Bradley-G-Texas
Whatever position he plays in the offense is irrelevant, his ability to defend both positions makes Steph Curry better and Bradley is the best suited player for their tempo
7. Detroit: Ekpe Udoh-PF-Baylor
Instantly gives the Pistons an option at the 4 and someone who can rebound well.
8. LA Clippers: Wesley Johnson-SF-Syracuse
A little "slide" for Wesley but I don't suspect he is a workout warrior and I think the "good not great" guys always tend to slip. Right or wrong.
9. Utah via New York: Gordan Hayward-F-Butler
Would fit in great in the Jazz system with his ability to move off the ball and shoot the three.
10. Indiana: Paul George-G/F-Fresno State
Pacers need someone other than Danny Granger and occasionally Brandon Rush who can score via the perimeter.
11. New Orleans: Cole Aldrich-C-Kansas
A great pickup for them as they have virtually no depth at the size positions
12. Memphis: Eric Bledsoe-PG-Kentucky
Toughest prospect to judge since he played out of position in Kansas, but I think he can be really good
13. Toronto: Greg Monroe-PF-Georgetown
A tough prospect to figure out at GT, had games where he dominated and games where he floated around, but could contend to start day 1.
14. Houston: Donatas Motiejunas-PF/C-Lithuania
A big body for the Rockets, can stretch the floor, size a little issue but hopefully he grows.
15. Milwaukee via Chicago: Ed Davis-PF-North Carolina
Bucks get a talented but unproven prospect, who will be compared to another slender UNC player of recent year, Brandon Wright, and that won't help matter.
16. Minnesota: James Anderson-SG-Oklahoma State
A great long range shooter, a little ahead of Henry in terms of his ability to play now and still only 21
17. Chicago via Milwaukee: Xavier Henry-SG-Kansas
Bulls probably get the last of the decent SG prospects as Henry and his ability to shoot fills a huge need.
18. Miami: Hassan Whiteside-C-Marshall
A big body for the Heat, but his ability to defend, block shots and rebound will be a nice addition to a Heat team that hopefully will be full of scorers.
19. Boston: Luke Babbit-SF-Nevada
Gives the Celtics a guy who can hopefully help save Paul Pierce a few minutes a night and can be a capable wing defender
20. San Antonio: Damion James-F-Texas
A definite tweener in that he doesn't play the 3 or 4 full time, but an excellent rebounder and if he develops a jump shot, he is a top player out of this draft
21. Oklahoma City: Pattrick Paterson-PF-Kentucky
Thunder delighted to see a guy like Paterson available as he gives them a back to the basket scorer they don't have
22. Portland: Willie Warren-G-Portland
Portland's inability to create offense was apparent from their round 1 loss to Phoenix, Warren is a top creator of offense in this draft
23. Minnesota via Utah: Daniel Orton-C-Kentucky
An amazing fifth pick in the top 25 for the Cats, Minnesota gets a big man who at the 5 spot is a willing and able defender
24. Atlanta: Solomon Abadi-C-Florida State
HUGE body and can run exceptionally well for a big that size, Atlanta needs a body to contend against bigger teams and Abadi is that
25. Memphis via Denver: Quincy Pondexter-SF-Washington
A solid but not great prospect, someone who would make the team and contend for the rotation
26. Oklahoma City: Larry Sanders-PF-VCU
Thunder continue to stock pile size, seeing as Jeff Green is about to be a RFA, Kristic UFA in a year
27. New Jersey via Dallas: Lance Stephenson-SG-Cincinnati
There is no denying two things: he is a top talent and a top bone head. At this spot, worth the risk.
28. Memphis via Los Angeles: Miroslav Raduljica-C-Serbia
Highest potential European on the board, Memphis tries to stash him away if they keep the pick
29. Orlando: Dominique Jones-G-South Flordia
Orlando needs guards who break down defenses without a pick and roll, Jones can definitely do that.
30. Washington via Cleveland: Devin Ebanks-SF-West Virginia
Tough guy to rate as he seemed to regress from Freshman year to Sophomore Year, Wizards have very little long term depth on the wings.

I couple of you explanations didn't match the player. For example, Bledsoe didn't attend Kansas, he attended Kentucky.

Minutae aside, it's a pretty good mock. I agree that there is no chance Avery goes #6. He might sneak into the lottery because guys who can hit mid-range shots as automatically as Bradley are very valuable in today's NBA. More than likely, though, he'll slip into the 20's, as there is no really great fit for him before then unless a team like Sacramento buys a mid-1st from someone.

I don't see Lance with the Nets. We already have Chris Douglas-Roberts, Courtney Lee and Terrence Williams, not to mention we might spend our capspace on a swingman this summer. As I've said elsewhere, I doubt we'll use a pick on a SG. We have no depth behind our two franchise cornerstones (Lopez and Harris), and the Nets' FO is looking for a skilled combo forward and/or a "moose" of a bigman (think DeJuan Blair).
Some people really have a way with words. Other people... not... have... way.
