I still don't understand Barnes lofty rankings by most everybody.

Can't see any reason to have him over Lamb and my guess is he'll be the 4th or even 5th, maybe even 6xth ranked wing by the time the summer rolls around.

I'm the exact opposite. I don't see why people are down on Barnes. The guy was the best player in college basketball the last month of the season last year as a freshman and he should be even better this year. He handles like a guard, has a smooth jumper, draws a ton of fouls, is a clutch go to scorer, and is a solid defender. On a team chalk full of future NBA players, Harrison Barnes is the alpha male.

I love Lamb's game as well. He might end up ahead of Barnes, but it will be more about how good Lamb is and less about Barnes having a bad year IMO.

PS: Excellent first post.

Barnes was never the best player in college basketball. I think Barnes will be good, but I odnt see anything in him that suggests he is a franchise player. When its all said and done, I expect Barnes to fall out of the top 3 in a similiar fashion as last year.

Also, I think Patric Young is too low- he seems poised to have a breakout season atleast on the defensive side of the ball.

I think it is pretty likely Barnes would have gone in the top 3 last year had he declared. It is however very possible that he could slide some because there are a lot of high upside freshman, who if they play well, could force him to slide some.

Patric Young definitely seems poised for a big year. He could very easy rise. He had a big summer on Team USA and is Florida's only decent frontcourt player. His main problem is that he likely will have to shoot someone to get the ball from UF's shot heavy, pass allergic backcourt.

I think Robinson goes a lot higher than that. The athletic rebounding/defense bigs always go higher than we project this early. And Robinson can actually do things offensively, unlike Patric Young. Top 5 wouldn't surprise me for him

Yeah Barnes was never the best player in college at any point.

He went from bad, to good, to one of the better players. That was his ceiling for the year.

I certainly think he could have went top 3 last year, but probably 4th overall, but that was more so the Euro heavy semi-weak/unknown draft from last year.

Very possible. The talent is there, we just need to see it on the floor this year.

I think people are forgetting how good Barnes was last year in the ACC and NCAA tourneys. He was an absolute beast. If he was not the best player in the country over that time period, he was certainly right there in the mix with Derrick Williams and Kemba Walker.

Is there a single star wing in NBA history who had average athleticism, a non-elite jumpshot, and could not dribble? Because Barnes is that.

I disagree on all counts. I think Barnes, while not a great athlete, is certainly a good one. I think he has a very smooth jumper, and solid handles. I also think he is far from a finished product. He has shown good work ethic and good improvement since he stepped on campus. There is no reason to assume he will not continue to improve. IMO both his jump shot and handles will not be a concern on the NBA level.

I don't think Barnes was ever up there with Williams last season. Williams was just so much more efficient.

Barnes hasn't got solid handles either IMO. His first step along with ball handling skills are a little disappointing. I don't really like that almost all of his points come from jumpers.

I know it's pointless to do need at this point, but I burst out laughing and then cried at the thought of the Jazz taking Jared Sullinger considering the top four key players on their team are PFs and then I realized it could happen with the Jazz's PF obsession.

Yah, I struggled with that pick. The problem is that I didn't want to drop Sullinger any further, and most of the guys immediately behind Sullinger did not really fit the Jazz either. It will work itself out I'm sure, but the PF collection was not lost on me.

Why is Detroit last? I'd be surprised if they're bottom 5

Sad panda if we take Barnes over Drummond. Sad panda.

I went by the betting odds of winning a 2012 title to determine the order.

The great bigs in this year's class is why I thought Toronto made a mistake passing on Brandon Knight last year. Though Barnes certainly still fills a need.

You still think that after Val's performance this summer ?

While I very much like the idea of barnes, is he bpa ? Raptors take bpa over position right now...
