Mock Draft Competition

Post#1 » by dorkestra » Mon May 11, 2015 8:46 pm

Who is interested in competing for the 2015 Mock Draft Crown? I want to see LloydFree, Cammo, Slow Paced, reanimator, Fischella, EMG at a minimum. Rules can be negotiated. I was initially thinking weighing the picks with number one being most valuable and decreasing thereafter. Anyone else interested? Marcus?

Is this suppose to be about guessing right?
Because my mocks are not really about that.

Yeah about predicting the actual order of players picked.

Are you going to do it interactively, while the draft is going on ?? or passive, submit your draft and score it based on results ?

It would have to be passive I imagine. It would be too difficult to keep track of everyone during the draft, not to mention picks are leaked before being made.

Yeah interactively would be great, but I don't know of a way we could effectively do that.

Draft is usually televised, you could give everyone one post per pick BEFORE it's made otherwise points/selection forfeited.

I'll think about it but seems I am a novice compared to a few of you....I got time to do some research so I'll get back to you on it.

The only problem is that message boards aren't even as fast as something like a chatroom or live draft room. Also, my major hesitation with that is that RealGM tends to go down during major times for basketball. I'm not counting on it for the draft. It's unfortunate, but something I have noticed over the years.

In terms of being novice, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Honestly, none of us have anything to lose but our dignity really (if we happen to have any left in the first place)

Interactive wouldn't work anyway, just follow Woj and you would be 2 picks ahead of the actual draft

I'm not publishing a mock anywhere this year, but hey ill put one together for this, why not

Okay guys, I am thinking of the following:

1. Play just the first round to keep it simple

2. Scoring:
a. Formula: (31-Pick Number) * Number of spots difference between the player you picked and where he ended up getting picked
b. Interpretation: Higher scoring is worse and the top picks are weighed more than the picks at the bottom of the draft.
Nothing too fancy, but I think that should be fair.

Other considerations include:
People who submit later have an advantage. Why? Because they have the advantage of potentially more information about team's preferences or rumored deals as well as the advantage of viewing other competitors picks which can influence them to make strategic decisions. My thought is that there is no major money at stake and I don't see any big deal in advantages being granted to those who have appreciation for good timing.

Any major issues with any of the above - let me know.
