BIG BOARD UPDATE 3/30/17

This is probably my best informed board yet, so it's hard quite the overall. Kicked a few guys out of the list that don't look like they'll be in as well, so it's a bit more condensed. Had the balls to bump up guys like Evans, J.Bolden, etc. up 10+ picks.

1. Fultz
2. Ball
3. Jo.Jackson
4. Tatum
5. Smith Jr.
6. Fox
7. Isaac

I know Thornwell is a senior, but 6'5" carrying USCe to the final 4. Good shooting #'s (this year). I would take him early second, and hope he'd be Brogdon of this draft. What are your reasons for having him lower 2nd round?

Honestly, I haven't seen heaps of him, and I don't want to get too reactionary with his good recent play. That said, everything I've seen suggests NBA contributor to me. I actually forgot about him until midway through putting the 2nd round together, so he's a bit lower than I would have him right now. I'd probably slot him in in that 40-45 range. 2nd rounds pretty good this year depending on who declares.

interesting that you have Zach Collins all the way up to 8 and Allen at 11 and Markennen down to 14, big change in the bigs. Combine and workouts will like keep things in flux, be interested if Zach C stays in the top 10

Many people have Tatum at 4. Why wouldn't the Sixers go for a PG? Or is Tatum just that much better than the rest?

The Sixers already have Robert Covington and Timothe Luwawu-Cabarrot at the SF position. Plus I think Ben Simmons could play there too.

It's an interesting position Philly are in. Worth noting my latest post was a big board, so I didn't factor in team needs. I would honestly look at trading up or down in their scenario, because as you said, SF isn't a big need for them (but in my opinion BPA). PG is a need but I think Fox is a really poor fit for Philly.

I think they pray to land in the top 2 and get Fultz or Ball, but otherwise, I would look at moving the pick either for an established talent or down in the draft. They could trade for the Kings 8+10 and draft some combination of Ntilikina, Smith Jr, Monk, Isaac etc.

Yeah, thought I'd stick to my guns on these guys. I think Collins is the best C in the draft, Allen not too far behind. I think with Markennen, once you get over his combination of size/shooting, is a pretty hole-filled prospect. He's too skilled to fall out of the lottery, but I would definitely have him as the 3rd best big behind those guys.

If there's one thing I would change from what I wrote a few days ago, it would be swapping J.Collins and Patton around (15<>19). I think I've been a bit hard on Patton lately, he's got great tools.

Will be very interesting to see how workouts affect things, for sure.

Re: GimmeDat 2017 Mock Draft

Post#29 » by GimmeDat » Tue Apr 25, 2017 8:43 am

Since the entrance deadline is passed, thought I'd finally do an actual mock. My problems with doing a mock so early on is that I usually over-emphasize team fit so that each pick seems considered, but then you always have guys fall lower than they should, so some may not be good fits but are purely BPA motivated.

This is also factoring in what I think teams *will do* (my projection of what will happen) with my own assessments, it's not purely me picking who I would pick for each team, necessarily. Explanations are with each pick anyway.

Mock Draft - 25/4/17

Celtics
- Markelle Fultz
Suns - Lonzo Ball
Lakers - Josh Jackson
76er's - Jayson Tatum
Magic - Malik Monk
T-Wolves - Jonothan Isaac
Knicks - Dennis Smith Jr.
Kings - De'Aaron Fox
Mavs - Frank Ntilikina
Kings - Justin Jackson
Hornets - Zach Collins
Pistons - Terrance Ferguson
Nuggets - OG Anunoby
Heat - Lauri Markennen
Blazers - Jarrett Allen
Bulls - Jonathan Patton
Bucks - Donovan Mitchell
Pacers - Frank Jackson
Blazers - Isaiah Hartenstein
Hawks - John Collins
Thunder - Juwan Evans
Nets - Harry Giles
Blazers - Rodions Kurucs
Jazz - Ivan Rabb
Raptors - Semi Ojeleye
Magic - Hamidou Diallo
Nets - Tyler Lydon
Lakers - Ivan Rabb
Spurs - Ike Anigbogu

Going to update this with explanations soon.

Blazer fans think SF is likely their pick at 15 (assuming nobody better drops to them at 15) for the
strength of the draft in the mid-first round are the PF/C that can be had at 20. Portland has a
equally large need for a front court player that can make the open shots that Aminu has missed
for two seasons. Look for Jordan Bell to go to Portland at 26.

Worth remembering this is a big board so I haven't taken team needs in to account.

If I was you guys, I would go for something like one of Allen/Anigbogu at 15, Leaf at 20, Kurucs at 26 (based on who I expect to be available).

MOCK (1st Round) - Loosely based on the above Big Board, though I have some mental changes to the above which will be reflected here. Also, heavily influenced on what teams want and who I *think* teams will take -

1. Boston - Markelle Fultz
2. LA Lakers - Lonzo Ball
3. Philadelphia - Josh Jackson
4. Phoenix - Jayson Tatum
5. Sacramento - De'Aaron Fox
6. Orlando - Dennis Smith
7. Minnesota - Jonathan Isaac
8. New York - Frank Ntilikina
9. Dallas - Malik Monk
10. Sacramento -Lauri Markkanen
11. Charlotte - Zach Collins (Charlotte look what options they can do re: moving this pick imo)
12. Detroit - Donovan Mitchell
13. Denver - O.G. Anunoby
14. Miami - Jonah Bolden (could see Miami trading back, and yeah I did just put Bolden in the lottery)
15. Portland - Justin Jackson
16. Chicago - Jarrett Allen
17. Milwaukee - Frank Jackson
18. Indiana - John Collins
19. Atlanta - Justin Patton
20. Portland - Terrance Ferguson
21. Oklahoma City - Rodions Kurucs
22. Brooklyn - Harry Giles
23. Toronto - TJ Leaf
24. Utah - Juwan Evans
25. Orlando - Luke Kennard
26. Portland - Ike Anigbogu
27. Brooklyn - Isaiah Hartenstein
28. LA Lakers - Jordan Bell
29. San Antonio - Jonathan Jeanne
30. Utah - Jordan Bell

Rabb, Lydon, Adebayo, Pasecniks, Ojeleye not quite making the cut.

Bolden in the lottery, did something happen all of a sudden to move him up 14 spots?

I've watched a lot more of him and been more convicted in my opinion on him, which has moved him up considerably in my eyes, but in this mock there's also a degree of Miami reaching for a PF here. I rate Bolden above Leaf, J.Collins and Hartenstein at this stage.

Big board wise he's probably closer to 20 though, which is a jump of 8 from the one above.

Any mock that has Frank Jackson going to the Bucks gets my full approval, for whatever that's worth lol. Good stuff. Bolden a bit high imo and I'd take DSJ top 3 though. Jeanne going to the Spurs could end up being pretty high on the long list of "god dammit the Spurs did it again" moves.

Yeah, Frank's a great fit for you guys. He's on my shortlist for the Bulls at 16 as well. Bolden is an unorthodox pick, I know that, I'm a fan though. I'm cool with DSJ up to 3, I think his 'shortcomings' are overblown and he's going to be a really strong NBA piece. And I like a high upside guy like Jeanne for SAS, they should be quietly looking to try and rebuild a core on the fly right now and the have the depth to just hide Jeanne for a few years while he gets stronger.
