realEAST 2017 draft

1. Boston: Fultz

2. Lakers: Ball

3. 76-ers: D. Smith jr.
76-ers need a PG, and although two of the best probably go one and two and their main target Monk may be a reach at this point. Smith jr. is equally talented as anybody else at the top this draft and has fallen mostly due to his lack of effort for NC State at the end of the season, which shouldn't repeat on the NBA level and with him maturing. Didn't put off 76-ers from taking Simmons.
Besides that, he is the best fit of all the guys left - he has handles, can take it to the rim, can shoot off the dribble (he has to become more consistent on 3pts, but it is still way ahead Fox or Jackson).

4. Suns: Jackson
Good fit on wing along Booker, kind of sets them up long term with young core.

5. Kings: Tatum
Kings go after BPA who is also a good fit, and hope PG falls to them at #10, or can trade down and grab a guy like F. Jackson.

6. Magic: Isaac
SF is most glaring hole, high potential and good fit with Gordon.

7. T'wolves: Markkanen
T'wolves have to settle here since missing on Isaac, but still addresses shooting woes and can hopefully develop in average defender.

8. Knicks: Fox

9. Mavericks: Ntilikina

10. Kings: Monk
Kings also kind of have to settle, but hope Monk develops PG skills.

11. Hornets: Z. Collins
BPA and good fit.

12. Pistons: D. Mitchell
Good fit, and sort of need.

13. Nuggets: OG Anunoby
Good fit for the team and along Jokic.

14. Heat: T. Ferguson
Potential as 3&D wing along Winslow and Richardson.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15. Trailblazers: F. Jackson
3&D guard, who can backup Lillard and McCollum and fits well with both.

16. Bulls: J. Allen
High potential two way C.

17. Bucks: I. Anigbogu
Long and strong defensive C

18. Pacers: J. Jackson
Most ready now guy, hopefully he can improve his handles.

19. Hawks: J. Collins
Versatile off big man, can play along Howard, Milsap and Muscala

20. Blazers: H. Giles
Long term high reward prospect.

21. Thunder: TJ Leaf
Shooting and depth at PF.

22. Nets: H. Diallo
Long term high reward prospect.

23. Raptors: L. Kennard
Scoring wing after Ross left.

24. Jazz: J. Patton
Backup big with potential.

25. Magic: S. Ojeleye
Fits the potential 3&D combo forward they might like for 2nd unit.

26. Blazers: J. Bell
Fit as defensive ready now big man.

27. Nets: J. Jeanne
Long term high reward prospect

28. Lakers: DJ Wilson
Versatile guy who can cover 3-5 and is good insurance in case of potential trade.

29. Spurs: I. Hartentein
highly talented guy who gets overlooked but could thrive under Pop.

30. Jazz: J. Evans
good backup PG and insurance for Hill (and to lesser degree Exum) situation.

Tnx for the patience :)

Nice one, realEAST.

I like the balls to go for DSJ at 3, I don't think Philly will go for him at the end of the day, but I do think he's criminally underrated by some. Likewise, I find it unlikely Fox falls to 8, but in this scenario it's highly plausible - Kings are a toss up between Fox/Tatum, if they go Tatum, PG isn't a need for the next few ball clubs. Obviously highly unlikely he falls past the Knicks in that case.

Thanks.

I think starting with Philly this draft is highly variable in a sense that one different pick by a team can set a whole series of picks in other direction than initially projected since guys are close and teams can use more than one of them. I think after 3-6 range (76-ers to Magic) it is going to be more clear, but this four teams will have the most decisions to make, and they will in big part be dependent on what teams before them do (Kings all the more complex since they have later pick too and two clear needs in PG, SF). In comparison to last year, this one should be much more dynamic.

Since there has been some developments since I've made this mock, I wanted to update it to reflect those changes (Diallo getting out, etc.). Lotto remains unchanged, so I'll just take it from pick #21:

21. Thunder: S. Ojeleye (athletic and strong combo forward who can shoot 3s, need and a good fit)
22. Nets: J. Jeanne (high potential big)
23. Raptors: L. Kennard (scorer for 2nd unit)
24. Jazz: J. Patton
25. Magic: J. Bell (high intensity, good defender and showed a developing 3pt shot)
26. Trailblazers: DJ Wilson (versatile FC prospect)
27. Nets: TJ Leaf
28. Lakers: Evans
29. Spurs: I. Hartenstein
30. Jazz: D. White

Thibs has stated that the Wolves will go for the BPA, so I would guess in this case they would take Fox or trade down with a team that wants Fox.

Getting Tatum & Monk at 5 & 10 for the Kings I dont think is settling at all. Im highly skeptical these guys are available at those picks, two of the highest offensive upside guys in the draft.

I also think Fox goes long before 8 probably to #5 Kings if he is available. Kings really like him and for whatever reason there is actual mutual interest.

DSJ @ #3 to Philly is an intriguing wrinkle; would definitely put a spin on the top 6-8 pick ordering.

Jeanne wont be a 1st rounder due to career-threatening condition.

I think it would be smart for Kings to take SF first, since I don't see any lasting until #10, and there could be at least Monk from guards; or they can reach a bit and take D. Mitchell

So, couple of changes (Jeanne being out) and some new info, I am going to update my whole first round.

1. BOS: M. Fultz
2. LAL: L. Ball
3. PHI: D. Smith jr.
4. PHO: D. Fox (I think they might rate Warren more long term then they do Bledsoe short term, and at the same time expect they can get a better return for Bledsoe than for Warren now)
5. SAC: J.Tatum (better shooter, younger than Jackson, can potentially play PF)
6. ORL: J.Jackson (can he turn into star?)
7. MIN: J. Isaac (God sent)
8. NYK: F. Ntilikina (they are looking at him apparently)
9. DAL: L. Markkanen (They have Curry, Ferell as young guards, FA market for guards is lot deeper; Dirk factor)
10. SAC: M. Monk
11. CHA: Z. Collins
12. DET: D. Mitchell
13. DEN: OG Anunoby
14. MIA: H. Giles (apparently looking solid in workouts, Heat might take a chance)
15. POR: J. Jackson (two way ready now wing, able to plug in the rotation)
16. CHI: J. Allen
17. MIL: F. Jackson (type of guard they are looking for; C is sort of covered with Plumlee, Henson)
18. IND: L. Kennard (shooter, possibly can contribute right away)
19. ATL: TJ Leaf
20. POR: B. Adebayo (high energy backup big)
21. OKC: S. Ojeleye (ready now forward who would fit well as 3&D guy, if his D proves to be worth it; he can improve there)
22. BKN: T. Ferguson (high potential pick)
23. TOR: J. Bell (versatile ready now big, good fit)
24. UTA: J. Patton (big to develop behind Gobert, offers some insurance for Favors)
25. ORL: I. Anigbogu (talented defensive anchor)
26. POR: J. Evans (high IQ backup PG)
27. BKN: I. Hartenstein (talented two way big)
28. LAL: DJ Wilson
29. SAS: T. Lydon (good shooter, bit of a tweener on D, but should continue to improve his physical profile, has room to improve there - high body fat level - can potentially become quicker and stronger; offers some insurance of forwards positions)
30. UTA: D. White (solid backup guard, offers insurance for Jazz guard situation)

Realized by now I am higher on this kid than most. I think he'd be solid C, however.

No Plumlee in MKE. Center rotation is Thon, Monroe (player option), Henson.

If Monroe opts out, there's definitely a C need.

Tnx for notion, totaly mixed it in my mind, had the trade going other way around.

Anyway, Bucks now with Wilson - long, athletic snd solid shooter with decent upside

I can't speak for the Bucks Forum, but I think if it fell as you have 1-16, I think the Bucks go with Bam or Ike.

Congrats on nailing the Wilson pick...Bam was our apparent target, but was snatched up early. Not sure how I feel about the pick, but I'll back him. Hopefully he can find a nice roll, play 10mpg, play serviceable D and hit the 3pt% at a nice clip. He'll slide into B-Easy minutes and be what Mirza was suppose to be.
