I'm actually trying to challenge that notion in a competitive 12-team, 9-cat roto league. I ended up with a team whose top players are currently Lebron, Duncan, Baron, J. Rich, and DHoward. You can probably guess that I have a '1' in FT% and a '2' in TOs (surprisingly enough, as I expected a '1' there too). I'm also averaging 11 or more in the other 7 categories and have been fluctuating around 80 to 82 points total for the past month, currently about 5-6 points ahead of the 2nd place team. (Side note: being a competitive, knowledgeable league, the key to how this team was assembled is that I drafted Howard in the 6th round and I traded KG for Lebron once I realized my FT% and TO's were messed up.)

in theory it's possible, but in practice it's very hard to draft a team dominant in 7 cats, at least in a competitive league(i'm not saying yours isn't)

Josh Howard also deserves a bit more love IMO.
Ray Allen's a bit luck to be at 34 I'd also have to say.
Peja at 50 is far too high.
Gordon at 59 despite an awful season?
Korver at 86 is too high
See the pattern?
I know that 3PTM technically also contributes towards your points total, but I think too much emphasis has been placed on it.
it has been pointed out to me that my formula overvalues good %s and overpenalizes bad ones. j-how's main contributions come in pts and rebs which are the cheapest cats, in the most valuable ones he is unimpressive so i don't think he should be much higher. difference between west at 33 and jet at 46 is smaller then between paul at 1 and nash at 3 so it's clear that those positions can change preatty quickly and that all those players have very similar value.
peja is where he is because he is 2nd in 3s in the league, 1st in turnovers among top 80 players and 2nd among top 100 without hurting you in %s. turnovers are severly undervalued. peja is baisicly dominant in 2 cats (dominant as in josh smith for the blocks) with no major negatives. he contributes in 2 more cats(pts and ft%) and barely hurts fg%. also he is slightly above average in reb and stl(keep in mind that this is made with 400+ players included and that around 200 of those are crap as fas fantasy is concerned so they bring down averages very much). raja bell is mini peja.
for korver only post trade numbers are used so he should defenetly not be at 86th
gordon and allen get big part of their values from ft%(both shoot over 90%, gordon is ranked 6th and allen is 10th)) which is as i said earlier overvalued at this moment

another obsevation: including bunch of scrubs who contribute to nothing but number of ranked players is messing with end results and allowing players who dominate certain cats to gain some additional value, so value of guys like j-smoove, camby(blocks), j-rich, peja, lewis(3s), cp3, baron(steals), nash(assists) is a little inflated, while value of good turnover guys(like marion and peja) is deflated(since all those scrubs don't turn the ball over)

I'm curious as to how much the rankings change if you use a top 200 pool for your averages. Or rather, which players show the greatest change in value.

i'm editing my excel file to reduce number of players, it will be posted soon. players most benefiting right now are those dominant in certain cats (such as camby and smoove in blk, j-rich and peja in 3s etc) because the more players with 0 averages there are the more valuable are their contributions. also low to guys(marion, peja) have their value reduced because bunch of those scrubs have less then .5 tos making them less remeakable
here's how i calculate scoring for cumulative stats, we'll take 5 players 2 cats system:
player a 2.5blk 25points_for_blk 3reb 6points_for_reb 25+6=31overall_score
player b 1.5blk 15points_for_blk 10reb 20points_for_reb 15+20=35overall_score
player c 0.5blk 5points_for_blk 5reb 10points_for_reb 5+10=15overall_score
player d 0.5blk 5points_for_blk 3reb 6points_for_reb 5+6=11overall_score
player e 0.0blk 0points_for_blk 4reb 8points_for_reb 0+8=8overall_score
total 5.0blk 50points_for_blk 25reb 50points_for_reb 100overall_score
points pre blk=50/5=10
points per reb=50/25=2
i hope this was clear enough. i think it was easier then trying to explain through words. every cat has same total of points which ensures that all cats are equal. tos are substructed from overall score since they are negative cat. both %s have same total as every cumulative cat, but i need to rework distribution of those points. as you can see there are no fixed weights, in an example above blk is worth 5 rebs, if you change player a's blocks to 0 then you have just 2.5 total so a blk is worth 10 rebs. it all depends on players included(site will allow you to choose number of players you want ranked)

new reworked list. this isn't based on final version of th formula, but it's as close as it's possible in excel. there are still some issues, but upon first look i think that this one is much better. what do you guys say?
maybe i have deflated %s too much since top 4 all hurt you in at least one percentage without helping you in the other?

Yeah, I agree. Something is off and I think like KalElen mentioned it has to do with how the %s are factored in the rankings. That's Josh Smith's biggest weakness and he's made it to #4. It would also explain Dwight Howard at #17 and JRich at #15 for the season. I assume that the analysis is done over the course of the season as JRich's %s over the past month have been better (around 44 fg%, 85 ft%) compared to the season (43 fg%, 74 ft%).
