What to do with Butler?

Post#1 » by Anthrax » Fri Feb 29, 2008 6:32 pm

There are reports that he has a partially torn labrum but will be re-evaluated in a week. If it is a complete tear of the labrum then his season will likely be over. So should I try to deal him now and get whatever I can for him or should I wait it out? As of now I've got 4 key guys on my team that are injured: Mike Miller, Arenas, Brand and Butler. I'm currently in 6th place in a 12 team h2h league, and have a 9 game lead on 7th place.

IMO youre better off trying to get value from butler... Even if the labrum isn't completely torn, you run the risk of it tearing anyway.

I would try to deal him if you can get fair value. But the Wizards are in the playoff hunt, and have not been doing good without Butler to say the least. Recent reprots say he will not need surgery, but rest. He has already been resting for 2 weeks or so, and I expect him to be back in about 2 - 3 weeks. His fantasy playoff schedule is also really good, and during that period the Wizards will be fighting for playoff contention.

The fantasy basketball section on the USAToday website said Butler is out anywhere from 1-3 weeks, since he's such a good player when healthy I think he's worth keeping. However... If you can get decent trade value for him in a deal I wouldn't object to you doing it. There is still a possibility that Butler doesn't play again this season, it appears as if that's not likely to be the case anymore though.

He'll probably rest for as long as he could, then return.

You are kind of screwed either way. No one will give you any value for him, but he could be lost for the year. If it was me, I would hang onto him and hope for the best. You probably aren't winning anything anyway if you deal him for an inferior player.
