League Size Preference?

Post#1 » by Death Knight » Thu Sep 25, 2008 5:25 am

So what is everyone's preference on league sizes? What size do you enjoy playing the most or feel the most comfortable with?

8 teams? 12 teams? 14,16...20...or something like a dynasty league with 30 teams? With less teams, you get to work with stacked teams. With more teams, it becomes more challenging as you are forced to explore the depths of the NBA. Assume that the default roster size is 12-13 players.

For me, I kinda like it with 20 teams. You can still get 3 stud/excellent players to go along with good to serviceable players. Anything more than that and I have to vomit seeing names that I really don't want to see on my team.

I think 14-16 teams is the best

in 20 teamer, the teams on the end sides of the snake will probably have trouble. Those teams can pick and then aim for 20 players before their next pick and all of those 20 players can be picked in the next 40 picks... which really screws up their draft. they simply can't gamble on their sleepers.

I prefer a smaller number of teams (12ish) but with bigger rosters (15).

Best of both worlds.

The bigger the better. I prefer deep leagues. I love searching for sleepers, free agents etc. Smaller leagues are for managers with average knowledge of the NBA and half of each roster is comprised by all-stars and generally good players. There's nothing challenging about it.

Agreed, I'm in a 30-team / 12 man roster keepers league.. great challenge.

I think a 14 team league is just about perfect, then you still have a handful of bench players available in case of injury, but they aren't good enough for people to be constantly churning their roster, which I hate, especially in the playoffs.

14-16

It's hard to get 16 active teams though...

I'm playing my first 20-team league this year, it does seem like a large number of managers, but I like the challenge of drafting so deep. It's probably unavoidable to have a few managers that give up in a 20-team league, but that's OK. If we wind up with 12+ active managers, I'll be happy.

hoop_head, like I said in our league messages, i'm very impressed with your history in fantasy ball and i'm going to see if you can deliver.
