Strategy - TANK FT%????????

Post#1 » by Electric Slim » Wed Oct 22, 2008 4:57 am

Is this a good idea for a H2H league?

I'm drafting tomorrow night for an 8cat (No TO) 10 team H2H and I'm tempted to take Dwight Howard with my first pick if I fall out of the top 4 (Paul, Amare, Lebron, and Kobe IMO).

I dominated my league 2 years ago with bigs that included KG, Amare, Tim Duncan, Al Jefferson, and though I lost the ft% a lot I racked up a lot of 7-1's. I was iffy in 3's too, but I won and got my $$$.

Last year I had a very good well rounded team but was so diverse that I couldn't win certain categories with consistency. I had Camby, but I lost the block category now and then since I didn't have a good #2 blocker (my best was probably Aldridge).

SO ANYWAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!

What players out there would be awesome to build a team with if you just throw out thier FT%?

Thanks.

I remain wholly unimpressed by Matas and would be very upset not only if we trade up fo him, but if we even draft him at 11

I'd take Dwight before Amare or Kobe in a league with no TOs, using a strategy where you tank FT%.

Artest is a guy whose value would rocket (har har) into the top 10. Same with Josh Smith. Gerald Wallace would see himself hit the top 20. Those are really the only huge jumps (other than Howard) from your standard 9 cat league.

Avoid guys like Dirk (whose value drops to around 28), Granger (34), Bosh (36) in the high rounds.

Just edit those player rankings and compare to your standard rankings.

Wade looks healthy and he's a superstar without TO's. Pick him and don't ditch at all.

I tried that in my draft on the weekend. Although I was able to get Howard in 3rd round after Deron Williams and Brand. Decided to try the tank . . .picked up Okafor, Chandler, and then took Shaq in the last round. Other good player s with bad FT% . . McGrady, Dalembert, Josh Smith, Odom . .. thats not to say all are good picks for other reasons.

ESPN's can be sorted to show the worst 50 FT% that had enough attempts to count

PGs... Rafer Alston, Crawford, Tony Parker, Baron Davis
SGs... TMac, Iguodala
SFs... Josh Smith, Lebron, Pietrus
PFs... Kenyon Martin, Blatche
Cs... Dwight, Biedrins, Bogut, Chandler, Okafer, Ben Wallace(still some value)
scrub Cs... Shaq/Boone/SeanWil/Damp

A small note would be that you can typically afford low FG% players when you take this strategy because many low FT% guys are high FG% guys. Stevenson, Kidd, JJ, SJack are some of these guys.

Ignore this... I normally wouldn't tank FT% or turnovers(I realize not included, just saying) since they are the least competitive cats in fantasy basketball typically. It is easy as pie to make up for FT shooting woes if you merely ignore the 15 or 20 guys who kill FT%.

Thanks, but I think it's a very risky team. There's a lot of injury prone players and I don't know which Artest or Kaman will show up this year. Or TJ Ford for that matter.

Ford almost got a triple-double tonight. Without Calderon, he'll be a stat-stuffer.
