I am the commish of a league and I made the decision to go with FTM as a cat over FT%. It got some debate but my reasoning is that the league leaders in ftm are pretty diverse in fact of the top 10 only 2 would be C eligible. If you look at the top players in FTM it is much more diverse a group.
On the other hand ft% is dominated by Gs (Dirk is the only represented big man, Yao and B.Miller are the only other bigs represented in the top 25).
Free throws are a key stat and must be represented. When its Saturday night and I'm one stat category from winning I want to root for something like FTM (you can see and count it) not FT% (I don't own a non-cellphone calculator) but that's just my simple mind.
About FT% being a check against bigs... I think 3's made and FT's made is a pretty fair balance between the two styles of play. I don't see why we should do % for one and "made" for the other. Afterall, some bigs go long, and some wings go inside and get fouled.
In addition I think Dwight Howard should be a no-brainer top 5er in fantasy drafts, I mean c'mon who wouldn't want him on their team?

Re: FTM vs FT%
Your free to choose the cats that you most prefer and accordingly different players values rise and fall.
In my opinion FT% is as essential as FG%, (ESPECIALLY IN H2H) because of the simple fact that they don't punish teams who have less players playing during the season (week). Also used to balance this out is TO.
If your going to take out FT% I think you should put a low cap on the number of transactions allowed, or it could just lead to more chaos (especially in h2h playoff time..)

Re: FTM vs FT%
ahh...
I didn't think about that!
good call, I can see it now, picking up players just for the extra games because more games = more ftas and thus ftms. although on the flip side I never liked when one of the scrub players on a team would hit 2/2 and hold a 100% for the whole week by not being played again by the owner, obv. sacrificing what small production he might get in the next 2 games or so. this is a yahoo league so i'll play with the commish tools to see how I can combat this.
EDIT:
I'd appreciate your advice on this... how many transactions should I set the limit at??? I was thinking 2 per week with no season max and locking teams the week before the playoffs, but would love input.

Re: FTM vs FT%
i could be wrong but yahoo doesn't look at it like "okay 100% ft and 50% ft, so this this team's ft% for the week is 75%", but instead totals up all the ftm-fta and then gets a % based on that. that way, more ft's aren't necessarily good, but someone going 2-2 isn't necessarily better than someone that shoots 12-16

The thing with stopping after achieving a high percentage is you then sacrifice all of the other categories like FGM, FTM, PTS and so on...
If you insist on taking out FT% I think 2 or 3 transactions per week would be appropriate.

Yup, that's exactly how it accumulates its totals.
