Keeper League Question: Which 3 players do I drop?

Post#1 » by fdefore » Thu Feb 26, 2009 4:01 pm

Question for people with Keeper League experience... I have to drop three players from my roster for next season. It's custom scoring ( OFR +2.0, DFR +1.5, AST +2.0, BLK +2.5, STL +2.0, PTS +1.0, TO -1.5, PF -0.5, TF -1.0 ) and divided by minutes (96 for guards and forwards, 48 center). The team:

Player ------------------ Games --------- FPPG ------- FPPM
G Chris Paul ------------- 52 ------------ 51.8 --------- 1.38
G Andre Miller ---------- 56 ------------ 34.6 ---------- 0.97
GF Mike Dunleavy ------ 18 ------------ 24.4 ---------- 0.89
F Antawn Jamison ------ 57 ------------ 39.8 --------- 1.03
F Jeff Green ------------ 57 ------------ 30.7 ---------- 0.83
FG John Salmons ------- 56 ------------ 30 ------------ 0.82
CF Tyson Chandler ----- 34 ------------ 24.9 ---------- 0.79
CF Ben Wallace --------- 52 ------------ 19.3 ---------- 0.80
CF Josh Boone ---------- 43 ------------ 13.7 ---------- 0.79
CF Robin Lopez --------- 38 ------------ 6.4 ----------- 0.65
F Julian Wright --------- 31 ------------ 7.0 ------------ 0.73
G Courtney Lee --------- 52 ------------ 13.4 ---------- 0.58

I some have younger talent but a couple aren't tremendously productive (Boone, Lee, Lopez and Wright). But there are a couple of older guys (Tawn, Andre, Salmons) that I'm not sure how their production will hold up. I have an idea but since I'm fairly inexperienced with keeper leagues Imight be overthinking it.

Any thoughts or advice you could give about who to drop or KL strategy/philosophy would be appreciated.

ben wallace is a no brainer. robin lopez looks like a monumental bust. for me it'd come down to boone, wright or salmons.

although, i'd be wary of dunleavy. 1 breakout season, and two knee injuries this year? pawn him off if you can.

I'd drop Wallace for sure. Lopez and Boone would be my other two.

Though doing that will leave you with just Tyson Chandler for C.

I guess it depends on how you're gonna pick up new guys for next year. if you can afford to get another center down the line then drop Boone. Otherwise, might wanna keep him. Boone > Lopez.

Just to add, there's a reason Julian Wright is still with the Hornets. Their front office likes him. It's just that Byron Scott that doesn't want to play him. I'd stick with him.

I was thinking the same thing about Wright. Unfortunately his great per min stats last season have taken a bit of a nose-dive this year so I was wondering if it was still crazy to hold onto him.

I was planning to dump Wallace, leaning toward Lopez but it was the third spot I was unsure of. As I said above Wright seemed like he'd be worth keeping onto but Boone / Lee I wasn't as sure about. Boone was significantly more productive before injury and the better Lopez replaced him. Lee has been okay, but I'm not certain he'll ever be a good per minute guy down the line and guard is a relatively easy spot to fill. But it sounds like Boone is the consensus.

As for Dunleavy, obviously he's done for the season, but he was putting up fairly solid numbers for not being healthy this season and in his career has been relatively injury-free. I'm hoping he comes back healthy in Jim O'Brien's offense to give him a little more trade value. ::fingers crossed::

This is most probably a hoops.ws league.

I'd drop Lee-Boone-Lopez

I wont drop Wallace yet since he is your second center behind oft injured Chandler plus Big Ben's fppm will prolly go up as his minutes go down so he should be a nice backup center in that format to play 18-20 minutes per outing.

Boone simply seems odd man out in Jersey and frankly speaking he doesnt show any upside to be more than a 4th/5th big in the future either.

My advice to drop Lee might come as a surprise but 0,58 fppm is simply terrible production. Lee is 5th option on offense(and will be like that for another 2 years probably) and IMO he will a much valuable player in real life than in hoops.leagues alas Battier (who is always one of the worst producers in most hoops.ws formats despite being a respectable standard-9 cat yahoo player)
