Players who have fallen in fantasy value this year

Post#1 » by robertjanssen007 » Sat Mar 28, 2009 1:25 pm

Clearly Shawn Marion is number 1 on the list.

But who else has fallen? Elton Brand was rated super high at start of season and he appears to be washed up. Iverson took a dive this season too along with B Davis. But the player I am frustrated the most is Josh Smith. Drafted him in teh second round in the "important" league that I'm in and he's categories are down across the board.

I agree with all the names you mentioned.

From the mid-round types, Peja,Luol Deng, Mike Miller,Mike Dunleavy and Josh Howard have lost a lot of their fantasy value.

I also believe that Boozer and Kaman will be drafted 10-15 spots later in next year drafts.

Another name, whose decline went unnoticed by most,is Gay. He was drafted in top-30-35 range in most leagues but his current rank is 105th.So he has been a big disappointment. I dont expect him to drop in next years draft too much since he is in a good situation and still very young but I expect him to drop to 45-50 range.

Add Richard Jefferson and Samuel Dalembert to the list as well.

Amare is an interesting name. He certainly didnt live up to his draft position this yeat but I think he will a top-10/15 pick next year. His injury will not affect him and he was the one who most suffered from Porter's philosophy. With Gentry's arrival and his re-implementation of SSOL offense and considering Amare's upside(a top-5 player when he is at his best) will probably make him a top-10/15 pick.Even in a down year,he is ranked 15th overall on a per game basis.

IMO next year the tiers for the first round of the draft will be:
Bron-CP3-Wade
Kobe-Durant-Granger
Nowitzki-Yao-Gasol
Amare-KG-Jefferson
Roy-Deron-Bosh

It will be interesting to see how some of these will rebound. I think Marion is not coming back, maybe around #50 I don't own him so I haven't analysed his status as much. Another that is down is KG part due to injury and part due to the players around him. Amare and Brand I think should come back strong. I have more confidence in Amare than in Brand.

Not sure about Deng.

I agree,Marion's days as a 1st/2nd round is over.

Deng's prospects is closely related to Ben Gordon's free agency situation. If he bolts, then Chicago will move Salmons to SG and start Dneg. If he stays, then I dont see Deng starting over Salmons or Gordon hence his playing time and value will be limited.

Top Tier: Baron Davis, Allen Iverson, Carmelo Anthony, Josh Smith

Mid: Maggete, Josh Howard, Sam Dalembert, Tyson Chandler I couldn't really put Peja here because his #'s aren't that much worse from last year

One of my worst FB years ever.

These players I drafted in probably 80% of the leagues I was in.

Rasheed Wallace - has to be one of the worst shooting big men in the league, FT% isn't so great either, doesn't reb so well either.

Peja - guy did not shoot the ball well at all and with CP3 setting him up how much more open can you get. Combined with his injury tendencies, I'll find my 3's elsewhere.

Mike Miller - guy wants to be a triple double threat and became allergic to shooting. I don't know if it was to blend in with his new teammates in Minnesota but I drafted him for 3's and pts. I'll still draft him but it depends on what his playing situation is.

Caron Butler - his end of the year stats look great but he was not a difference maker at all and he is a huge TO machine, plus he likes to get injured to.

Rondo - I actually like this guy but he needs to clean up his FT% cuz it killed me at the start of the year

JR Smith - too schitzo with his numbers

Ginobli - he seems like too much of an injury risk...plus Pop limits Spurs min's
I'm so tired of the typical......

Carmelo Anthony had a down year. Injuries and attitude all contributed.

Rasheed, JR and Rondo were all pretty much on par for there expectations. I haven't checked but I think Rondo actually got much better @ fantasy basketball this year.

Rondo was better than expected(56th on per game basis, drafted around 80/90's most of the time).

Sheed was still very good on per game basis(29th ranked) but he gives the impression like he had a down year on cumulative basis due to missed games(16 games) but in realiy his cumulative rank (45th) still outranks his average draft position(most of the time between 50-60)

Smith gave more or less what was expected. He was drafted between 110-120 and his current rank is 113rd.
