Durant + Arenas + Granger + Jamison

Post#1 » by NetsForce » Sat Oct 17, 2009 7:04 pm

Hey guys I'm trying to rank as many players as possible before my draft on Thursday, I'm kind of at a loss where to draft guys like Granger, Durant and Arenas though so I was wondering if you guys could share around what position you guys have been drafting / ranking him.

I'm in a 14 team (possibly 16) competitive head-to-head league with standard cats.

Right now I have Granger at 6 and Durant at 7... I haven't ranked arenas yet but I'm thinking late first round early second round.

I guess I'm also not sure of what to think of Antawn Jamison so any insight on him would be appreciated.

If you're talking standard 9-Cat, my list looks like:

4. Durant
6. Granger
35ish: Both Arenas and Jamison

I'm surprised so many owners have Granger ahead of Durant. Durability and Durant's trajectory make this one a no-brainer for me.

And there's no way I use a 2nd round pick, let alone a 1st, on Arenas. If he goes down again, you're screwed. Why take that kind of risk when there's comparable talent to be had?

CP3
Lebron
Wade
Durant
Kobe
Granger
Dirk

That's how my top 7 go. Although since it's H2H, Dwight Howard would go before Dirk, and possibly higher should you decide to tank FT%.

As for Arenas, I wouldn't take him until my 2nd pick.
Jamison should be around 45-50 in my books.

I went out shot some hoops and have warmed up to drafting Durant at first I wasn't really sure how much more valuable he'd be than say an Andre Iguodala or Brandon Roy... Here's my current list:

Lebron James
Chris Paul
Dwyane Wade
Dwight Howard
Kobe Bryant
Danny Granger
Kevin Durant
Dirk Nowitzki

Howard might be too high for some people's liking but I like the fact that you know what you're going to get from him and there is virtually no injury risk with the big fella...

I guess my question now becomes what's the big difference between Dirk and Jamison?

It seems to me that Dirk will get your a few more points and more blocks but some of that advantage is offset by Jamison's advantage in 3's.

Now I still think DIrk is better than Jamison. But would I be better off not drafting Dirk early and then picking up Jamison who will give you similar production later on?

Also as for Granger over Durant... I'm kind of rethinking that as I type this...
---

I guess my other big obstacle right now is sorting through / ranking the list of prime big men: Duncan, Garnett, Pau, Amar'e, Bosh, Al Jefferson

If you guys have any insight on them it'd be much appreciated. Garnett in particular is a guy I'm interesting to hear about.

He's definitely not a guy I'd take in the first round but I'm thinking third round right now...

Good luck getting KG in the 3rd round.

My big men: Amare, Jefferson, Bosh, Garnett, Pau, Duncan

Look for Bynum in 4th round.

Stay away from Brand.

Jamison is good if your league counts TOs. Expect his #'s to drop off a bit with Arenas back.

I wouldn't pick KG before the 3rd round, and taking him ahead of Pau is absurd.

NetsForce, you said a mouthful in your last post, brother. I'm gonna reply when I have a bit more time.

I have the 5th pick in my H2H 8 category league (no TO's) and am mulling over Granger versus Kobe as Lebron, CP3, Wade, Durant went 1-4... I'm leaning Granger as of right now but its 55-45 right now.. what do you guys think?

I might be in the minority here but I'd take Dwight Howard or Kobe. I like Granger but I'm not sure if he's going to play more like the 2007-2008 version of himself of the version we saw last year, my guess is that we'll see something inbetween the two which still makes him worthy of a top 7 pick IMO, but you know what you're going to get with Dwight and Kobe.

*This is also why I now have Granger ranked below Durant. If Granger performs like he did last year I think he'll be better than Durant this year. But I'm not quite sure Granger can put on that type of performance again and stay relatively healthy.

There's also the fact that I expect Granger to see less time at PF thanks to the addition of Tyler H.

With that being said one thing Granger has going for him in yahoo leagues is that he can play SG, SF, PF.

You can't go wrong with Kobe, Dwight, or Granger. I think Kobe and Dwight are the safer picks though.
