Players to draft with caution in 2011-2012

Post#1 » by WShaw » Sun Aug 14, 2011 9:51 pm

Often times in fantasy basketball a player’s name is bigger than his actual fantasy worth. I have identified a few players to beware of in the 2011-2012 season. Duncan, Beasley and Brook Lopez. Who would you add to the list?

It would be helpful to have some concrete draft position advice in those articles. Take Brook, his BBM value for last season has him ranked 57th for 9 cat play, which is the back half of the 5th round. His rank for the latter half of the season (last 44 games) was 40th though, which is maybe a better spot to value him from going into the season. So when you say 'take him high' exactly what were you thinking, draft-wise? Personally, I have him ranked as a late thrid round guy.

As far as other caveat emptor players, I'd put Joe Johnson on that list for sure. JJs rep way outpaced his actual fantasy value last year, and I suspect it will do so again this year. He'd need to go back to playing 39-40 mpg to regain his 2-3rd round value and I just don't see that happening. Even he regain a real shot from three this year I don't think he'll return any better than 5th round value, but he'll get drafted a lot higher than that in many leagues.

Kidd and Nash could be over-drafted this year too. Both guys will be good, but people need to adjust their expectations down a round or two for both guys.
