Fantasy Keepers - Who Would You Keep?

Post#1 » by Yilun » Mon Feb 27, 2012 9:56 pm

I'm in a 14-team deep H2H Yahoo league (standard 9 cat)

We get to keep 4 players every year.

My current set of keepers are Kevin Durant, Carmelo Anthony, Chris Bosh, & Nene Hilario

This season, I've also managed to get my hands on some intriguing "keeper-worthy" material:
Ryan Anderson
Nikola Pekovic
MarShon Brooks
Javale McGee

Now, out of the current 4 keepers that I have, the one that I'm thinking about dumping the most is Nene. He's getting up there in age and he's a constant injury concern. When healthy, he does provide 13/7 with about 60%FG and 1 steal/block combination which isn't too shabby. But the 4 potential keepers that I have on my team are interesting as well. They are younger and have higher ceilings in my opinion.

The problem is, which of those 4 should I keep over Nene?

Ryan Anderson - he is obviously at keeper level this season assuming he can keep up these averages (even if D12 leaves Orlando). The big question mark is can he sustain his numbers when they don't have a dominant big like D12 in the middle drawing defenders away from him? That seems to be a bit risk to take for a keeper.

MarShon Brooks - he's been compared as Kobe 2.0. While I'm not that carried away yet, I do see why people are high on this kid. He's a natural scorer and is supremely confident. He has NBA range on his jumpshot already and is a very good complimentary to my other 3 keepers who are focused more on % and scoring. Plus I can see him easily averaging 1.5 steals per game as well. But again, if NJ is going to be in the market to make a huge trade splash, where does MarShon end up? It's risky keeping a rookie talent when I'm not sure what his usage rate will be going forward.

Nikola Pekovic - this guy has surprised many people this season including myself. I never imagined when I picked him up after Darko got hurt that I would have a guy who can average 60%FG, 17/10 with 1 block as a starter. He's probably my FA pickup of the year. But does he stay in Minny next to Kevin Love? Does the franchise have long-term plans for him or is he simply a one-year wonder? When I watch him play, the guy is rugged and effective. He seems to have the type of skill/body to be able to be successful on any team if given the minutes.

Javale McGee - freakish athlete but I think we can all agree that he's about as dumb as they come. He's constantly in the dog-house and continues to make bone-headed plays that almost forces coaches to bench him for stupidity. When healthy and playing though, he's a nightly double double and 3 blocks waiting to happen. But as a keeper, can I count on him to continue to improve and not suddenly implode?

Let me know what you guys think about my potential keeper situation and if I should keep any of the above mentioned 4 over Nene going into next year?

1. why are you positing this question right now? we're barely halfway thru the season
2. right now it's ryan anderson AINEC. dwight howard leaving is irrelevant.

lol @ marshon brooks ever becoming a consistent top 50 player in fantasy or real life
