Evan Turner?? Vastly underrated sleeper?

Post#1 » by karim_da_dream1 » Sun Sep 16, 2012 3:00 am

I got a good feeling Evan Turner will have a great year. With iggy gone he will now be the secondary ball handler next to Holiday, and even play some backup point guard. He contributes wel in every category you want from a small forward, except for 3s. But this can be negated because of his stellar rebounding and playmaking abilities for a small forward.

Thoughts?

Vastly underrated compared to what? He's getting ranked in the 85-100 range by most sites and that's mostly where he's going in mocks so far. Given the inconsistency of his play last year that sounds about right, maybe even optimistic. Sure, there's a lot of potential there, but I don't see any reason to reach for him in a big way come draft day.

Even if he plays more consistently, he's still a perimeter player who doesn't shoot 3s or FTs very well which hurts his value

I am in a keeper league and have Jrue Holiday as a keeper. I was thinking of taking Evan Turner over Marcus Thornton, and handcuff philly assists.

I don't consider him a sleeper....but I'm considering picking him up. I agree with you that he will provide some good value in the mid-7th and early 9th round ( 90s to early 100s pick ) as a solid backup 2nd/3rd SF/SG.

I don't see it. He already played 26 MPG last year and averaged .2 threes, .6 steals and .2 blocks. Even with a slight bump to all of those, none of those are the kind of mind-blowing totals that make him a must-have sleeper given his current draft spot. The only thing he might do reasonably well is get assists, and even then he'll probably be closer to 4 than 6.

Turner sucks. Can't shoot or play above the rim. Isn't explosive enough to be the guy you want as the primary ball-handler. He's a bust.

Any potential you think he has should be transferred over to Jrue Holiday.

He has some value but he doesn't get to the line, get steals, or hit three-pointers... How high were you thinking about drafting him?

He has value because of his rebounding and passing ability (assuming he gets to monopolize the ball which probably won't happen with Andrew Bynum being the immense blackhole that he is), but I'm not seeing Turner as a "vastly underrated sleeper"...

He's alright. I see him ending up in the 70s. Jrue will end up benefiting from Iggy leaving the most.
