Is Zeller worth a pickup? Put up some solid numbers in his last 3 games, but I only have 5 roster moves left for the rest of the season.

Five rosters? Pretty harsh. I'd pass.

Well there was a lot more to start the season. I just didn't use them very wisely. I'll just wait a few more games and see how he does.

I'm interested to see what impact the Cavs' Speights pickup will have on Zeller's minutes, if any.

Marreese Speights is a career backup-calibre stretch big who may technically be a better player than both Zeller and Tristan Thompson if given their usage and minutes. But with no playoffs in sight, the Cavs appear to have every incentive to continue to develop their two young bigs instead of explore Speights' already quite limited ceiling.

I've been trying to take a temperature on how Speights will fit into the Cavs' big man rotation, but with very limited success so far. A lot may still depend on how well Zeller and Thompson do tonight against the Celtics.

Speights is there to keep them honest. If Tristan/Zeller perform well, they'll get the minutes.

Frankly, though, Tristan and Zeller aren't that good; limited ceilings. Tristan is a good 6th man. Zeller is a good 4th big. (To be fair I'm more confident in my assessment of TT than I am of Zeller.)

I picked up Zellar after losing Varejao and I'm contemplating whether or not to pick up Speights. If you look at his stats, he averages about 14 ppg and 8 rbg whenever he played 20+ min. I'm liking Zeller better because he gives you similar results and a block or 2 per game. But you never know whats going to happen.

I was really hoping rudy gay to be traded to a team like raptors or phx.

I don't see Speights getting more minutes over azeller or TT.

Scott is a old school type of coach and TT and Zeller are workers

Well, you have to get out of the fantasy context -- "if they get minutes they're good!" -- and evaluate in real-life terms: are they good enough to get said minutes?

Speights is what he is: a decent backup big. Huge limitations. It would take a minor miracle for him to get the PT necessary. To pick him up now? That would be pre-emptive.

I agree. It's probably best to continue to ride Zeller and especially Thompson on that Cavs front line right now, until the new frontcourt rotation is established. The minutes both are getting are ridiculous, and it certainly hasn't been hurting the Cavs ability to win games, as they just showed by beating Boston tonight. If Speights ends up taking 7 minutes each away from both Zeller and Thompson, that would sting a bit, but we have no way of knowing if it even ends up being that.
