RealGm Mock Draft Challenge 2010-2011 Sign up on Yahoo !!!

Post#1 » by Curtis Lemansky » Wed Jul 7, 2010 12:15 pm

As the free agency is proceeding and new season is approaching, we will conduct a mock draft for the upcoming season with fellow fantasy board gm's. The purpose of it will be to give some idea to other fantasy gm's about the value of players for the year and to see how the drafts will roughly shape up. I tried to get the best crop of gm's we have in our board and hopefully it will both fun and helpful for us and for others in preparing for the upcoming season.

Each gm will post their picks and give a brief explanation of why they made that pick and roughly what kind of stats they will be expecting from that particular player. The draft start date is July 28th, 9 am EST. High profile free agents who are expected to be drafted in the first rounds of the draft will probably be signed with their new teams at that time.

Sending lists is strongly encouraged (you can post your reasoning behind your pick afterwards when you are available if you make your pick via list)

Settings:

-Yahoo
-12 hours per pick & No trades allowed
-Teams: 10
-Scoring Type: Roto
-Roster Positions: PG, PG, SG, SG , G , SF, SF, PF, PF, F, C, C, UT, UT, UT, UT
-Stat Categories: FG%, FT%, 3PTM, PTS, REB, AST, ST, BLK, TO

The league will run on yahoo. Since there are no bench spots/no trades/no transactions, you set up your lineups once at the beginning of the year and then you are good for the entire year. So the “league” doesnt require usual fantasy basketball daily/weekly maintenance. Make sure that you draft a roster in accord with the roster requirements (ie. Don’t draft 10 point guards)

i'd like to be back, but i'm afraid that i'm gonna be unavailable for 2 significant periods during the draft, so i'm better off stepping down right away then wasting your time. good luck to all and have fun

I'm out as well. I've found myself picking some weird players just for the sake of not revealing my real picks in my realgm leagues. Also I don't have enough time nowadays. So I guess there is no need to do this. Have fun guys.

You know, it may be smarter to wait until mid August to do this, after many of the leagues on this board have started the draft. I know many express hesitation about wanting to reveal their hand on the players they covet.

I think so, especially when you get into the later rounds and most of the good picks in the FFL are followed by the declaration: Oh man, I completely forgot about that guy!

Alright, since everyone is concerned that it will reveal their hands, it is best to move the draft to a further date. A mid August or late August date should be fine for all I guess.

Jordan, Can, Alex and Wes, let me know if new start date changes your decision

If you need me, I'm game. I've been waiting for this thread to show my interest, and haven't checked for a while due the the FA bonanza.

Isn't the point of doing this to help possible realgmer's with their fantasy teams? I'm sure it can get pretty cut throat and some of your realgm friends might snag a guy cuz they know you want them, but I can't imagine it's going to totally ruin your chances- many times they end up overvaluing how much you actually value a guy, in which case you get to go "I know I said i loved him, but you go ahead and keep jarrett jack, I'll be happy trying out the rookie Jennings". I guess August is late enough so you can do other drafts before, and early enough that it is still helpful.

What if we did the draft on a private forum, that way only the players in the league knew who we were picking, and the results can be made with no names attached.

That is an interesting idea but the problem is we have usually the same group of gm's in here and in FFL so it wouldnt help gm's a lot in terms of not revealing their hands. I for one dont care about that but that seems to be the main concern of most gm's.

But if everyone is up for a private forum+an earlier start date, I'm sure on board.
