Lebron
Comments added:
It was a tough choice between Lebron, KD and CP. Because we aren't allowed to change the lineup, I went with a safer pick due to injury concerns I have with CP. Another thing with CP is his current drama with the team, who knows if he will pull a Vince and fake an injury just to get traded. KD was my other choice, he probably would have been a better choice in Roto due to FT%. He would be the safest pick out of all 3 IMO. The main reason why I picked Lebron is to watch him fail. Yes I'm one of those bitter fans.

Woody takes:
Kevin Durant
Kevin Durant is the guy to build around for me here. With Chris Paul there's the issue of him pushing out of the Hornets, which could go as far as leading him to underperform or even get sidelined in the middle of the season until a trade is complete. (Plus his newly formed BFF-ship with LeBron annoy the hell out of me)
No such issues with Durant, I expect him do at least as well as the last season, or even better if he cuts his turnovers down a little bit and adds an extra assist a game. Besides his tweets suggest he's been working hard over the summer.

Chris Paul.
Cannot believe he fell to me. He was who I had ranked number one. Lebron gives steady production everywhere, and has a better injury history, but Chris Paul is DOMINANT in too many catagories to pass up. Maybe the fact that we don't know which team he'll be playing for (or phoning in the season until he gets moved) had an effect on where he was taken, but I'm extremely happy to get CP3 and an elite PG with my 1st selection. Hopefully he can stay healthy and happy...
I don't like predicting stats because it's such an unknown, but I think per game stats close to 20 points, 6 rebounds, and 11 assists, with 2+ steals and good %s is where he'll finish.

Kobe Bryant
There are younger guys available, and other guys you could legitimately say will be better this year, but they all have question marks for one thing or another.
Kobe is a sure thing. Say what you will about him, but he's been producing at the highest of levels for 14 years. With a healed knee and a healed index finger on his shooting hand, his shooting percentage should improve. He may start to play fewer minutes this year, but what he loses in ppg, he should make up for in TOs and percentages.
Given all the other question marks surrounding the other elite players, I'll stick with what I know.

Re: RealGm Mock Draft Challenge 2010-2011 - Writersblock picking
I was hoping Kobe would drop...I'm taking:
Dirk Nowitzki
...and I'm taking Dirk for one reason and one reason only: This is a roto league, and frankly, Dirk's 91% FT% will seal the deal in that category for me. Other guys may be ranked higher, but NO ONE on the board has the kind of advantage to seal the deal on one category like Dirk does in FT%. Plus, he has some great all-around numbers. Good FG%, good points, good boards. He can still hit the 3, though not as much now apparently. Also, he doesn't hurt you in any areas as much as the guy who's going to be picked next.

Dwyane Wade
Had a hard time deciding between him and the guy who's getting picked next, but I think Wade will still get me valuable blocks, steals and assists. I think he'll be energized by Bosh and Lebron too. We'll see, hated this spot to pick, but I think Wade gives me the best player to start with, and even though Wade has suffered from a few injuries, the guy who was the other option is even worse. His ast/reb/pts might be down a bit, I expect his hustle stats to stay about the same, and that's what still makes him a top 10 pick.

Leave it to me to always fail in the 1st round.
Indy sucks, he still should get all the stats he wants IF HE STAYS HEALTHY.
Danny Granger
If he can get one healthy year, he's a great fantasy player. Mid 20's scoring. High 3's. %'s that don't kill you.
Take the 3's with above average stats elsewhere, and nothing too really kill you beyond injury and yes I think he is more valuable than blatant snubs at this 7th pick.

8 Deron Williams
His statline brings no negatives and gives me a headstart in a very valuable category (assists). He was pretty much CP3 Jr. last year where he posted almost identical stats to Paul in points, assists, rebounds, steals, 3's and blocks. Obviously CP3 has a huge edge over Deron in steals and FG% which puts him to the top of the draft. On the other hand, Deron is as consistent as they come and is much more durable. Some more 3's would have been nicer but that's the easiest category to fill in later rounds. A moderate increase in 3's (up to 1.6 3's level) and in ft% (to 85%) is pretty much within realm of possibilities which can carry him into the top-8 range in fantasy land.
I considered 4 more players at this spot and I'll reveal their names by my next pick. Hopefully the two gentlemen after me will leave at least one of them for my next pick.

Steph Curry
It's ironic that I joke about the all-Warrior team, and then get a draft slot that practically guarantees that I'll pick Curry. Explanation:
1) This is a no-bench league. I'm targeting players who will play big minutes and stay healthy. Curry, with his youth, fitness, below the rim game, and basically no one decent to play behind him (Bell, Lin, Pargo???) is a threat to hit 3100 minutes this season.
2) He produces. If he maintains his Jan-April production from last year, with no improvement, that's going to be a top 5 fantasy player.
3) Lee. Should drive up assists and create high percentage looks both inside and outside the arc.
4) Warriors. High octane pace. And he's clearly not going to be traded away.
5) percentages. It's always nice to get a guy with the first pick who you feel is not only a good value, but is excellent in the percentage stats. It gives you a chance to build a team going forward that isn't one dimensional.

So unfortunately for floppy, I'll have to dash his hopes for an all-Warriors squad.
Picks 10 and 11:
Pau Gasol and David Lee
Interesting that in the top 11 picks there are 3 pairs of teammates. I would've liked to see either Curry or Williams drop to me here. With Gasol and Lee I get a couple of bigs that can get 10+ boards each night, score in the high teens/low twenties, and pass well for big men. In addition, both shoot +50% fg and around 80% ft. A solid big man foundation for a roto league. I understand there would be concerns about Lee maintaining his numbers from last year due to the presence of both Warriors guards. But as floppy pointed out, Lee should only serve as a target for Curry's increasing assists total.

Brook Lopez
Ok, so David Lee is gone. SADDENZ. But that's ok, because when the wheels come off in GS, Lee is going to be the one to suffer, not Curry. So I'm going Brook Lopez because:
1) recurring theme... young guy who is likely to give me numbers all year long. Favors is not going to impact Brooks minutes or production one bit. NJ has too few bigs for there to be any impact. Plus Favors is *ultra* raw right now.
2) positional scarcity. I like to pick up a good center in the first two rounds if possible.
3) team fit. Curry does it all except rebounds and blocks. Enter Brook Lopez.
4) percentage cats. Brook keeps the pristine team pristine. (ok, his fg% is not so hot for a center, but you can't have everything.) Plus he looks like Mr Clean anyway.

Re: RealGm Mock Draft Challenge 2010-2011 - floppymoose up
Picking from Nos's list:
#13 - Amare Stoudemire
Ok now I can reveal the other 4 names I have considered at 8. I considered Lee, Curry, Lopez and Amare at 8. I guess I was spot on at least in understanding how the 2nd tier will shape up after the top-7 since these 4 players are selected in the next 5 picks.
Before Joe made his pick, I went back and forth between Lopez and Amare to put at the top of my list and decided to go with Amare at the top.
Reasons: I think statistically he compliments Deron very well. A center shooting great ft% and fg% is a big asset in roto leagues. Plus he seems extra motivated after signing with NY and he even attended some summer league games to support his young teammates.
Statistically he had a somewhat down year by his standards (28th on per game) but he played in 82 games and his cumulative rank (15th) justifies his draft position. Moreover he is a very consistent performer. The previous year he was ranked 18th on a per game basis and the year before he was the 2nd ranked player overall in fantasy basketball so the upside is definitely there for him.
D’antoni’s SSOL offense certainly enhances his upside and he can put similar stats to what Lee put with less rebounds and more blocks. Considering Lee was 6th ranked player with 0.5 bpg, Amare can crack into top-4 with similar stats+ 1 bpg.
Thus at the end, Amare’s consistency, his upside in NY offense and the extra motivation he has for finally being the top guy on his team was too much to pass on at 13. Frankly I almost picked him at 8 but I thought Deron would not drop 13 and I guessed that Amare can possibly drop to this spot. Plus if he had been picked, then there were a lot of viable replacements in his place (Gasol, Lopez and Lee) one of which would have dropped to 13.
At the end, I’m fairly certain that Amare will finish at top-15 on per game basis at the end of the year and he even has a outside of cracking the top-4 level if he can get his ft% back to 80% range and blocks shots at 1.5 bpg range

Wow, I apologize for the wait, completely forgot to send a list.
Anyways, some really good options at this pick, so I will take the oldest and most injury prone one:
Manu Ginoboli
This pick strengthens my 3's some more.
Manu gives me a lot of similar numbers as Granger , except he ups his Ft% and assists.
Though age/injury and the emergence of Hill are a factor, Manu did just sign an extension and I think he will produce for a bit while longer

Josh Smith
I was in doubt between Josh and another player but I feel Josh is more of a sure thing. Him and Wade will combine to get me a nice headstart in the hustle cats. I just need to worry about my FT now. Smith shoots a horrible % from the Free Throw line. Still I like his steals, rebounds and especially blocks. His rebounds went over 9 per game for the second half of the season and he also averaged almost 5 assists.

Re: RealGm Mock Draft Challenge 2010-2011 - Writersblock's pick
I'm kind of surprised of the last few picks, and I'm surprised who's still available. So, with this pick, I'm taking:
Carmelo Anthony
There were other guys I considered, but there are two things I like about picking him here. He's still young and out to prove something. His 26 ppg and 6-7 boards last year complement Dirk, plus his FTs aren't bad and his FG% is fairly high. I particularly like his FG% because he shoots 20 shots a game, if he keeps shooting above 45%, then that really solidifies my FG%. Plus, with my first 2 picks, my team gets over 50 ppg, and frankly, points is probably the category that starts to wain as the draft wears on, so I had to go for a points advantage where I could. The only downside to Carmelo is his TOs...I can live with it for now though.

Staying with my theme of aging veterans...
Steve Nash. That's a lot of age on my team now, but it's not like Nash has a history of missing a lot of games.
I'm counting on the loss of Amare leading to a bit more scoring from Nash, which may also increase this production from 3. His assists will be among the league leaders, and his percentages are great as well. He won't hurt me too much in TO's, and for a roto league, I think he's the most well rounded of the top tier PG's left.
It's the conservative pick, but at this stage in the game, it's the right pick.

Al Jefferson
This pick was tricky. Hopefully my strategy pays off with taking Big Al here. This will be his 1st year after completely coming back from an ACL injury. He's in a new system, which I actually think benefits him. Deron Williams is easily the best PG he's ever played with, and should make him look more impressive. I'm not worried about Millsap stealing numbers, and it looks like Okur might miss some of the season, allowing for plenty of Minutes to go around in the beginning--and even ample minutes to be spread around once Okur comes back. I think Jefferson comes back to the game where he's a top 15 fantasy producer, so I'm glad to add him with the 18 pick.

Al Horford.
Solid all around numbers (especially for a C) w/ very good percentages and he's still got some room to improve too. Played 81 games last season.
Sorry for the short rationale, posting from my cell phone.

To complete my "Team I hope to fail", I select Chris Bosh. I'm aware that his production is going to drop. But there just aren't too many bigs that won't kill my FT%. He's still a consistent double double guy even if his scoring drops to sub 20. At pick 20, he's a safe pickup.
