Best approach to building team? Stacking categories?

What do you guys find is the best approach to building a fantasy team? Generally, I have my first 4-5 picks as BPA and usually try to stack at least 3 very good PG's and build my rest of the team on necessity.
I've seen players unsuccessfully stack teams revolving around versatile bigs that shoot 3's (Bargnani, Murphy, Okur) and teams that revolved around tanking FT% with a team centered around Rondo, Dwight. This year, I may go with the strategic route (stacking categories), what do you guys think? I was a runner-up in my 14 man league 2 years ago, but it's time for me to win, any advice is appreciated.
