Rate My Team (Dynasty League)

Post#1 » by cochiseuofm » Mon Oct 11, 2010 3:21 pm

Hi guys, for the past 3 years I have been in a dynasty fantasy basketball league. The rules are you start 7 players, change rosters weekly, and have a total roster size of 13. 3 of the players on the roster are put into a D-League. You only get 1 D-League call-up a season, and have access to the players in the playoffs as well.

It is a H2H league with eight teams. So if my roster looks loaded, that is why.

My Team

PG - Darren Collison, Raymond Felton
SG - Jason Richardson, Kevin Martin
SF - Antawn Jamison, Hedo Turkoglu
PF - Josh Smith, David Lee
C - Dwight Howard, Nene Hilario

D-League - Jrue Holiday, Terrance Williams, Anthony Randolph

We start 1 of each position plus 2 Utility players, so players in bold are, as of now, starters. My strategy is obviously to punt FT%, and to a certain extent TOs, and work on winning the defensive stats.

Any thoughts? I am considering dropping Turkoglu for Kleiza before the season starts (we get no free agency adds during the season, all free agents automatically go into next year's draft pool.)

Aw man! No free agent adds during the season is tough. I would wait on Turkoglu either way, he has to put up something in Phoenix's offense. Kleiza could outperform him but it's to much of a risk in my opinion. Also randolph should probably be called up sometime soon, a player of his caliber shouldn't be in the D-League. Then again the only player I would play him over is Turkoglu.

It's a great team but like you said it's a shallow league, so I'm sure everybody has a pretty stacked team. You'll be unstoppable in blocks with Dwight and Smoove. Virtually unstoppable in rebounds with Dwight and Lee. Fairly decent in threes and percentages should be ok. I don't think Felton and Collison can carry you in assists so I would look into a third point guard. One who steals a lot preferably to help Felton and Smoove on that front.

The worst thing about no FA adds is not being able to replace injured players. But there is no fair way to do free agents in a keeper league without a salary cap, which we never implemented.

The PG situation may have to remain bad for now. I had Steve Nash, Devin Harris, and Russell Westbrook but lost all three in the expansion draft we just had (yes we had a pitiful 6 team league to start, my friends don't love basketball.) So I pretty much had to get 3 new PGs in the draft, Holiday being the 3rd.

This is a really cut and paste team...I only have 6 players I had last year and I'm still trying to recover from losing so many people in the expansion draft (also lost Roy, Iguodala and Duncan.)

not to be rude or anything, but some of the rules in your league aren't fair. what's wrong with replacing an injured player? there's nothing wrong with that.

Like I said, there is no fair way to replace injured players in a dynasty league like ours. Because free agents enter the next year's draft pool, it is unfair to let the best ones be picked up by people when they suffer injuries. We do allow free DL call-ups for injuries though.

We do the same format for football (where BTW both of my TEs are injured right now and I can't start anyone.) Players like Miles Austin and Jamaal Charles, who no one sees breaking out, become the prizes of the draft. And the league actually works really well.

I'd maybe deal Kevin Martin, if youre really punting FT's. His biggest value comes with his FT's, so if you don't need him, I'd trade him. Also, given the fact that you only start 1 guy and have two util guys, I'd trade Kmartin, Felton and maybe Turk for a big upgrade in your starting '7' Especially Collison looks to stay healthy, Jrich will probably play most games as well, so why not combine the 3 reserves + a starter for a big upgrade? You can always fill up one of the three back up positions with a guy like Dorell Wright or Kyle Korver.
