Basically during the draft the 2 guys I wanted were taken right before me, so I didn't have time to really research all the options and accidently picked Okur without properly researching the length of his injury.
I'm in a competitive 20 team H2H 9cat league. And there's 8 teams that go to the playoffs.
Sounds like Okur's out till December. Reports seem to be that he's ahead of schedule, but injuries like that seem like they might linger and not get awesome minutes even when he does come back.
Options arn't that great at this point. Shannon Brown, CJ Watson, Pietrus etc... on the waiver wire. But someone will probably stand out in the first week.
So basically if the choices are between
a)Pick someone up that will give better total season stats then Okur
b)Playoffs are what really matters. So as long as the team's good enough to get into the playoffs then Okur would be advantageous come playoff time.
Btw My team does need 3's, and rebounds. So healthy Okur is a good fit.

Re: Should I waive Okur?
After re-reading my post it looks like the real question is if my team is good enough to weather the storm, and get into the playoffs with Okur sitting.
So does this team look good enough for a 20 team league?
Dwyane Wade
Tim Duncan
Marcus Camby
Tony Parker
Channing Frye
Mehmet Okur
James Harden
Taj Gibson
Timofey Mozgov
Jamario Moon
Josh Childress
Steve Blake

Drop him! Okur won't play till the new year! If Hawes is available, take your chance on him! He is starting and shoots the 3 ball as well as rebounds. He can also get some blocks for you too!

Re: Should I waive Okur?
Hawes is 30% owned, and was drafted in the 8th round (out of 12). The guys available on the waiver wire are more in the 3-5% owned range.
So I'm not likely to pick up a guy that can give 15ppg, 7rpg, 1.3 3ptrs, 1blk like Okur can. So come playoff time Okur might be better to have then whoever i pick up. Although I might miss the playoffs all together if I only having 11 healthy players on my team for 1/2 the year sqrews me.

Re: Should I waive Okur?
I don't like carrying injured players for huge amounts of time because there's the injury period where they're hurt so they can't play and then there's another 1-2 week (maybe more) readjustment period depending on the type of injury, coach, success of the team without the injured player, etc...
Once again this is only me but I tend to only hold injured players for 1-2 weeks max unless I have a playoff spot locked up.
Like you hinted at, there's no point in holding onto a player who might be useful in the playoffs if you don't even make the playoffs.

Re: Should I waive Okur?
All about expected value.
If a guy like Bynum is out for 3-4 months, I'd still draft him, albeit later, because of his production when he is healthy. Okur is right on the borderline of where I'd roster him over most waiver level players. In my draft I picked him in the last round very hesitantly over Taj Gibson because I like my team a lot, and Okur will be gaining value just as Gibson loses his, and I didn't want to risk someone rostering him.
If you need 3s and boards I'd most certainly carry Okur, given the likely pool of available players.
