Focusing on 5 categories in H2H League?

is it smart to punt categories in a H2H league? For the playoffs this strategy will win because the winner moves on and points do not matter (i.e. winning 5-4 is the same as 8-1).
I am just scared that if I focus on only 5 categories I might not make the playoffs.. there are 16 teams and only 8 make it.
anyone have experience with punting categories before?

Don't do it.
It's a whole lot easier to do this in an auction league. A snake draft doesn't lend itself to it.

I did the Dwight strategy last year and it worked out great. I recommend it if you think you can pull it off.
In terms of non-Dwight tanking, I wouldn't do it right off the bat. Try building a balanced team at the beginning of the year and then when you get closer to the playoffs start trying to bulk up some cats at the expense of others if you feel you need to. If you stay balanced at the beginning of the year, you're giving yourself more flexibility in terms of how you want to position your team for the playoffs.

My strategy is to focus on Assists and Blocks...and punt FT% and TOs.
When using this strategy correctly, you'll have 2 to 3 solid PGs and at least two bonafide shot blockers.
PGs are going to give Assists but they will most likely also produce decent points, ft%, 3ptm and steals.
You shot blockers will also provide rebounds, points and FG%.
That's how I've won 2 out of the last 3 championships in a 20 team H2H 10 cat keeper league
