Hey guys, I've been hanging on to Manu for the better part of a month, and it looks like he might be out for awhile once again. I'm thinking it may be time to cut the cord, but I'm hoping for some advice or suggestions from you guys before doing so.
Ultimately, I've wasted a roster spot on he and Lopez for about a month. Couple that with some badly timed injuries, and it's cost me first place.
So what do you guys think? Is it worth hanging onto Manu for the next little while, or move on and grab someone else?
It's a H2H league, and the categories are: FG%/FT%/3PTFG/PTS/ASSISTS/RBS/STEALS/BLKS/TOs. I've pretty much punted FG% and TO's this year (though I've averaged nearly .500 FG% for the past few weeks. Go figure). Here's my team:
G- John Wall
G- Tyreke Evans
G- Kyrie Irving
G/F- Manu Ginobili
G/F- MarShon Brooks
G/F- Paul George
G/F- Nicolas Batum
F- Carmelo Anthony
F- Amare Stoudemire
F- Kris Humphries
F- Marc Gasol
F- Brook Lopez
Note: I may just be ornary because I've been shalacked the past two weeks 6-2, 7-2 respectively. My team will be better now that Melo, Amare, Kyrie, and Lopez are back from injury but still, there's too much pride and money at stake to be stagnant.
Also, here's a list of possible wire pick-ups. The pool is pretty shallow...
Raymond Felton
Andrew Bogut
Andray Blatche
Emeka Okafor
Anderson Varejao
Spencer Hawes
James Johnson
Bismack Biyombo
Byron Mullens
Aaron Afflalo
Mareesse Speights
Luke Ridnour
Reggie Williams
Courtney Lee
Thanks guys,

Re: Manu- to drop or not to drop?
As for what player to pick from that pool, hard to say.... Anyway, I wouldn't count on Ginobili too much though. Spurs have been doing very well without him, they are sky-rocketed to leading their division and have already given Manu an extra week rest when recovering from his previous injury (according to the most knowledgeable Spanish broadcaster, Ginobili was cleared to play before but Spurs told him to take it easy) So this looks like he's gonna be sidelined or reserved with their minds on the play-offs.
I have to say that I'm not a fan of keeping guys that will miss a bunch of games if there's someone worth plucking in the FA pool. That said, why not trying Felton (he cannot but start playing better, even more if a trade finally comes) and keep an eye of Hawes/Varejao's comeback after ASG?
Cheers

Hold him until you hear a definite timetable on him. That said, the Spurs have shown they can win without him in the regular season and you know they won't rush him back... and even when he is healthy as you saw he won't be playing big minutes. So if he will be out a few weeks(4-6), I would drop him. The Spurs have a great fantasy playoff schedule though.

Re: Manu- to drop or not to drop?
I've been strongly considering both players. My only issue with Biyombo is that to this point, I've fared pretty well in blocks...it's actually the only category I'm undefeated in this season (my guards have a lot to do with that- Wall/Evans/Batum/George can get the odd block for me). If Biyombo can stay more consistent/improve his rebounding then I'll most likely go for it- even if his terrible FT% might hurt me a bit.
I've got a keen eye on felton though. He played well last night, but I'm probably gonna monitor both players (and also Speights) until Manu's injury is fully defined...hopefully that'll be today/tomorrow.

Re: Manu- to drop or not to drop?
looks like Manu will still be out for AT LEAST 2 weeks due to left (internal) oblique injury here.
note: these are located just inside the hipbones.
FYI-Strains of the abdominal muscles are painful and difficult to manage if they occur close to ribs, pubic bone or hipbone. Manu is 30 years old and Coach Pop is known to protect his players(veteran).

Thanks. I ended up dropping Manu last night in favour of Speights (just for the meantime- looks like I'll need rebounds and blocks this week), but I'll probably drop him for Felton long-term once/if Ray starts putting up better averages.

Re: Manu- to drop or not to drop?
I would've tried shopping him around. You never know who values him and would want to take a risk on him. I saw a 2 for 2 trade with the primary trade players being kevin martin for manu the day manu came back from injury.
But regardless, if you dropped him I would've suggested Aron Afflalo. But it already looks like you have too many SG's. By the way, if you're thinking of Ray Felton, you better snatch him up now. If you wait til be "is putting up better averages" someone might take him before you.

Good points. I'll most likely pick-up Felton tonight, I just went with Speights because in this shortened week I need the potential REBs and BLKs.
And I've been thinking about Afflalo for awhile...had him on my team last year and he was pretty sound.
EDIT: grabbed Felton, dropped Speights.
